Well, I'm in my mid/late 30's, and when I was young people sat around and listened to music, too. We didn't have MTV, or even cable TV for that matter. Videogames existed, but not to the extent they do today, and they were for hardcore geeks only. Internet? Forget it- there was no such thing, and I only knew one person with a computer (an Apple IIe  ).

There's lots of reasons kids/people today seem to have such a short attention span, but suffice to say if I try to discuss audio with the people I know it's like talking to a brick wall. Or worse, one of them will ask me if I own The Speaker Brand That Cannot Be Named!

The days of taking time to enjoy the finer things in life have long since passed for many people in this world. Too many people are completely wound up in their busy life, so much so that they have forgoten how to enjoy themselves. Many of us are overwhelmed by work, family, bills, stress to the point that we are willing to pay extra for convinence. A few great examples of this are: Fast food, it is always cheaper to cook your own food but it is easier to pay someone to do it for you.
The gas station arround the corner, although the gas station down the road is cheaper by $.05 a gallon it is out of the way.
BOSE, oh BOSE, we haven't forgoten you. The kings of convinence. 1 box, 1 manual, idiot proof wiring, what's not to like for the average Joe. Although for half the price you can piece together a system 10 times as good.

It is sad when you really think about the fact that the masses are the ones who influence what the manufactures produce. The same people who think BOSE is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

there are still some hillbillies who like music

even though i'm the only one with a decent theatre, quite a few of my friends actually prefer sitting around my cardboard box and listening to whatever we're in the mood for instead of going out drinking, unless what we're in the mood for is women....... but long story short, there's a dozen hicks in nebraska who sit around and drink beer, INSIDE, and listen to high quality music, instead of mp3's out a sanyo boombox.

Of course we do. I mean "civilians/normal people." Please, tell me your friends could see you sitting in the dark with a snifter of cognac for four hours listening to jazz music with no pictures and not think it was a little strange.

LOL ......you have a point Rob.

My Hobby

Well I had a Bose system and for me, it was a music appliance. It was easy to setup and sounded good. I was happy enough with it but never really interested in it. Honestly, I didn't think about it or use it much. I really stopped listening to music except as a background for life. No real involvement.

Since I discovered the world of Hi Fidelity Sound several months ago it has become a hobby. There is a lot of semi serious talk about upgradeitis on this site but this is really a hobby for most of us, isn’t it? We spend time and money on our hobbies whether it's fishing, golf, sky diving, RC toys or bird watching. These things become a passion and we are involved with them, learning, testing, playing, experimenting, enjoying. Isn’t upgradeitis simply the pursuit of your hobby?

You don’t do that with a Bose Lifestyle System, you simply use it like a refrigerator. OK, maybe that’s a little harsh but you know what I mean.

...everyone has been conviced(brainwashed?)they MUST have pictures with their music, they MUST "multitask"(I HATE those media-spawned terms!) or be considered somehow "odd"...Unfortunately, most who try to do more than one thing at a time usually manage to do none of them particularly well...it becomes the rule rather than the exception and just lowers the bar for life in general...

...not in the long run...salt & fat...sugar & fat...processed to the point of little balanced nutritional value...Like the ad used to say "...you can pay me now or you can pay me later..." Given the fact that a great many folks should have "Goodyear" printed on the side of em' and the rates for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, certain cancers are steadily rising, how is "cost" calculated...

And re: busy, busy, busy? who is forcing who to do so many things(so poorly)? Is it media-hype? The "keeping-up-with-the-Jonses" mentality?

It's like some of us keep waiting for Larry Fishburn to show up and say "Welcome, to the real world".
Laurence Fishburne ;)

However, I agree with you, I don't recommend Bose, but my aunt and unlce have one of their systems, I went over to their plac not long ago, and their Bose system? It sucks. But, I didn't go "oh you shouldnt have this blahblahblah" I just enjoyed it, it did what it is supposed to do. Play music.

Oh yeah, and they think "this is the best audio system!" meanwhile im thinking "just wait 'till the guys at audioholics hear about this ". Really, they are overpriced and crappy...My Denon beats Blose any day of the week, period.

I think that's the way to do it Cygnus. People that bought Bose paid for what they wanted. Whether they wanted it due to advertising or because it is what sounded best to them it is still what they wanted. All that matters is that they are happy with their purchase. You won't find most Bose owners out in a rush to debunk cable myths or crusading to stop snake oil salesmen. They're too busy doing what more of us should be doing; enjoying their purchases.

Exactly! I mean, I know that my Denon isnt top of the line, but its alot better then Bose, and probably all of you would agree with me even though we both know that my receiver isn't top of the line, I still enjoy it!

Infinity Kappa 7.1 Series II vs Bose 901 VI

Hello my friends
I just subscribed in this forum and I was searching something about my new used speakers from Infinity.

I would really appreciate your advice on this.

I used to hear the Bose 901 VI and yesterday my Infinity Kappa 7.1 Series II arrived.
I hooked them up...the pots -dials behind the speakers for mids and highs dont work but the speakers play.

Now I try to make my comparisons and maybe I was used to the sound of Bose. The Infinity sound different. I think they are more softer but I have the bass and treble on flat.

The Bose had more highs but I had the Bose equalizer to have the highs all the wayup.

I hope I made the right choice even the Infinity are used

I would appreciate your comments

Thanks in advance
