I think the Allman Brothers had two.

Have you seen the "Genesis Live at Wembley Stadium" DVD. There's a good duo in that.

I have seen all things Genesis recorded on video :p Chester/Phil, Bill Bruford/Phill and even Phil play with Led Zepplin. Very cool.

King Crimson's recent live incarnation, "the double trio", features 2 awesome drummers (one has already been mentioned here): bill bruford and pat mastelotto.

Which one do you think was the best?

I remember seeing a concert long ago. Can't seem to remember who the band was. But Phil was drumming. He didn't sing at all. And it wasn't Genisis. Some time in the 80's I think. It was either at Madison Round Garden or Giants Stadium. This will drive me crazy now.

Edit: Found it! Sept. 12th 1983 at MSG he was touring with Robert Plant.

The Allman Brothers were amongst the first to use two drummers in a 'rock' band....along with The Outlaws! (My favorite band.) Monte Yoho and David Dix are great drummers. (Remember Green Grass & High Tides? Ghost Riders In the Sky?)

The band reformed last year after a 10 year absence and are doing a new CD and tour this Spring. Dix and Yoho are still on board. Incidentally, some of the finest guitar work you'll ever hear is played by lead git and vocalist, Hughie Thomasson.

Check 'em out.

Please don't tell me you consider Pat Mastelotto to be a competent drummer. At best he is the Kenny G of drummers and IMO a real insult to be paired with Bill Bruford.

Gene I totally agree about Pat M. Pat is pretty generic next to Bruford. I met Bill last year - AMAZING guy - later that night I saw him with his "Little Big Band" and he tore it up.

I wish I still had some of my Phil/Chester drum solo bootlegs. They had VERY musical and grooving drum duets going. The older (Seconds Out) feels are a little more interesting, but with the stylistic changes (pop) Genesis made along the way, Phil's serious pocket kept those songs listenable. Phil is a very funky drummer!

Two Drummers

Don't forget that the Doobie Brothers had two drummers.. Forget about the Michael McDonald era and focus on the rock and blues roots... Check out their two DVD-V offerings to see them in very smooth and integrated action...
