Just came from the neurologist, and they have decided to slowly take Cayla off of her seizure meds. Every two weeks, we are to drop the dose by one ml. She should be off completely by Jan '09. They said they don't expect any complications. Just a fantastic day for my wife and I. And, Cayla.:D

Thanks! She has only had two seizures since she has been home. That was during the first month or two. All of the other seizures and apnea were at birth, and while in NICU at the University. She has been seizure free for a little over six months now. Of coarse, she has had her meds daily. Due to the fact she has been at least six months without any seizures, the specialist feels it is safe to ween her off the meds.

Just a reminder. The seizures were due to the head injury at birth. They said from the beginning they felt that when the brain fully healed from the injury, the seizures would subside.

We still have a bumpy road ahead, but we have been able to enjoy our daughter the way a couple is supposed to recently. That is why I have been MIA. I do thank all of you for your continued support. Glad to be able to bring the good news.:)

Dunno if my little story helps or not, but here it is:

When I was born, I had a lump in my throat that kept closing up at night, and I'd stop breathing. I was in and out of the hospital, the docs wanted to do a tracheotomy, but I would have potentially had a lot of complications, at the very least a scar on my neck for the rest of my life.

So my parents decided against the surgery, instead buying a heart monitor, and a bunch of sticky tabs that I wore when I slept for the first two years. The monitor would go off several times a night, alerting my parents that my heart rate had gone too low (in many cases almost stopping)...

Eventually, things got better, my throat grew enough that I could somewhat breath normally (until I had surgery at 13 to reshape my throat, but that's another story). And despite not breathing properly for the first couple years of my life, I don't have any issues from lack of oxygen to the brain, etc.

Not that I know of! :p

So Zumbo, good luck with everything, babies are so fraglie yet at the same time extremely resilient and adapting. I hope your little girl is happy and healthy for a long time!
