Zumbo, she's a doll. I hope she keeps getting better every day. I'm waiting anxiously for you to tell us that she is safe and healthy at home with her family.

She's absolutely adorable Zumbo. You and your wife keep staying strong! Cayla obviously needs no such instructions... she's doing it all on her own.

She's beautiful Zumbo.
She doesn't look as tough on the outside as she obviously is on the inside.

Spoke with Neurologist today. There is slight damage to the lower left side of the brain. It seems to be nothing major, and new data has shown that many of us were born with head injuries. With this type of injury in an infant with an undeveloped brain, other parts of the brain attempt to take over the functions the damaged part would control. This type of injury in infants usually causes problems with the right side of the body, urination problems, BM problems, and feeding problems. At this moment, we have none of those problems. The seizures may still be occurring, they may not. The NICU Doctor, OBGYN, and Neurologist believe the seizures were due to the blood build-up at the injury site on the day of delivery. It is believed that as the injury heals, the seizures will subside, if they haven't already. It is hard for them visibly to tell if she is still having small seizures, and she can't be constantly connected to an EEG to test for this. As I mentioned, they all believe she is not having any. She is on the smallest dose of Phenobarbital now, and she only gets one oral dose in a 24 hour period. They plan to move her dose to a night time dose to help sleep when she gets home. They plan to try to get her home next week, and continue the Phenobarbital for 9 to 10 days. We will then go back for a check-up, and they feel she shouldn't need it any more.:)

You can click the image for a full size view. She is only one week old in this picture. You can't tell by the picture, but she has blue eyes.

Not sure if I explained every detail from speaking to the Neurologist. Many children are born with head injuries. If there are no visible problems, like seizures in our case, they don't look for brain problems like they did with Cayla. They would just send the baby home with the parents to begin life as a family. So, this would explain why many people have different little quirks about themselves. It could in the form of a lazy eye, poor coordination, temperament, crooked smile, you name it.

My brother and I were both 10lb babies. There were complications with both of our deliveries. We both went home after birth. He has a slight lisp(speech therapy corrected this), and he swallows backwards. I have too many to list.:D Mostly, I am just an A #0l*.
