B-M-WOW! A tribute to the BMR, and my journey to them..

remembered I have a perfect way to test:
L/R Speakers set to Large. Stereo Mode. Subwoofers are on Standby.
Using a 34Hz test tone should activate the subs if a signal is passing.
And it did.
So there is that. Thanks for the idea to test on. ;)
Not all avrs automatically use the sub in stereo mode when set to small, but believe current Denon & Marantz products do. Was this in LFE + Main bass mode?

only if you tell it no subs, I think.
If you tell it no subs then nothing can go to the subs; but LFE would be redirected to the mains I believe. Never tried that myself.....seems silly :)

One other pertinent piece of info... that was LFE + Mains. When I switched Speakers/Bass to LFE (only) no subwoofer output. Even with 30Hz test tone. (very low so as to not hurt the BMRs.)

Depends how high he stacks them!
I can do 6 fv25wide, two double stacks back right, two triple stacks I think back center, then maybe four high back left... So 18 FV25 behind my LP.
But since the cabinet is the same size, I'd rather try with THESE. How much juice will I need to bump 18 of those??? Hmmm...

I wonder if the Marantz will send a sub signal through the sub outputs if you set all your speakers to large and also set the sub to 'yes'? If so, you can run the speakers full range and also use subs.

If I remember right, you are using outboard amplifiers to power your speakers, correct? If so, you could just set a processor in the chain between the Marantz and your outboard amp for the Phil 3s, like a MiniDSP. in the MiniDSP you can setup a shelf filter however you like.
Shady, so with that test confiming I can run my subs, with speakers set to large, would I then activate the Low Pass Filter on my Sub to manually dial that in? (This would be using the Phil-3s when they come in.) But I wouldn't want to run the other speakers Large, so I would need to balance covering the signal from any surround and atmos, while also blending with the 3s.

So all of that brings back the question about the mDSP products and how they integrate with the system overall. It seems if I had an 8-in/8out, I could manage the 3BMRS and Phil3s as well as handling the subwoofers. IF I were to pursue this route in the long run, would you recommend going with the straight miniDSP and REW, or one of the Dirac enabled products? (just curious... 'cos that's a big "if" right now.) ;)

Thanks!

With external amps could be intersting to experiment with Dirac in a miniDSP unit...depends how much you want to spend for the Dirac over basic minidsp features I suppose.

I ask, again in thought only right now: there is the DDRC-88A/BM which handles 5 channels +3 subs. *shrugs
Would be cool to earn more about it just for the sake of knowledge.

Yeah, an 8 in/8 out processor should be able to route bass to subs regardless, in your situation. And yes, you would engage the low pass filter on the subs. As for Dirac vs regular MiniDSP, I don't know how the Dirac one behaves to say yes to. You would have to ask MiniDSP that question. Dirac is the only form of room correction I would use, btw, so it would be cool to have, even if only to play around with.

Wheeee! Finally have the room dialed in a bit more... few things left to do: address my equipment rack and cable management. And OMFG do I need to get my CM on.
Anybody got some good Polpette al Sugo? I got the Pasghetti! ;)

As promised. More gear porn!

I would try to get a little more space between the main speakers unless they sound best as is. Worth a shot. :)

So the pads are concrete remnants from a local company... acoustics are pretty neutral... much like granite, doesn’t ring when you knock... They touched them up for me and drilled the holes so I could attach the outriggers. Threaded inserts set with epoxy.

For the subs, I chose to try the SVS isolation feet. They work! Either, by themselves was good, but together (feet+pads), I have cut household vibrations by 85-90% I would guess. And the bass is much tighter.

And for the rest:

R-Surround: Mini-Phil and Rears: Dayton Affordable Accuracy

Mini-Phil on modified VideoSecu stand. Attached larger base with spikes at floor for stability, and a platform up top to keep the speaker safe.

I did experiment a bit as I was moving stuff around... but even 6 more inches further out on each side led to some significant corner loading... and that back right where the CD shelf lives now is a bad corner for bass. not just louder, but muddy-boomy. 6' apart, on center, 18" from front wall, 30" from side walls, in ths space is the best I can do.

How do you like those BMR's by now?
Absolute love-fest!
I do hope I can put the rig in a better room sometime, but everything sounds great.

From a music perspective, I haven't listened a single thing that sounded off in any way... other than a bad recording. And yes, I have a few of those. ;) But playing CDs through my BluRay or Streaming over Apple Music sounds better than I was used to before them. As I go forward and start experimenting more with HiRes audio, and 5-channel audio, I know I'm in for a treat!

Excellent! I'm happy for you and a little jealous too.

Those speakers look absolutely beautiful! Happy listening!

For less than half the price, I think BMRs outperform the Martin Logan Motion 60XTs and Monitor Audio Silver 500s... anything else in that class, and maybe several above.
The MA Silvers were my leaders until I heard Dennis' speakers. I'm fortunate and grateful. And perhaps will never be able to shop for another speaker again. ;)

Interesting, thanks for sharing. That's food for thought for me as I continue my speaker upgrade journey.

Oh those BMRs are ported. That makes sense. Cool. :)
