AV123 or SVS?

OK, i've posted a similar thread in the past, but still looking around at different subs. Now that AV123's MWF-15 sub has been out for a while, maybe there are some who have had a chance to see it in action. Does anyone know which SVS sub the MWF-15 would compare to from a performance standpoint? And which one would be a better choice based on the price/performance ratio? I believe this has been debated before. I'm looking for the best value, but I also want to have plenty of reserve to fill the space adequately.

Hey Fredk,
I know you love some Axiom, but I don't think Axiom has anything that can compete at this price point, no offense. The Axiom EP175 would fall into this price point and a 10" woofer sub isn't exactly what I had in mind. Please correct me if I am wrong. I'm willing to look at all available options.

well, in terms of price the SVS closest to this one is the PB12NSD.

honestly, the MFW with its 15" should be better than the PB12NSD.
but right now with their backlog and "not as good as SVS" customer service, i'd choose the PB12NSD... oh right, I did.

i hate the fact that "I have the money" "I want to buy your sub" is met with "its not available indefinitely and then some" if the MFW were available right here right now, i'd have ordered one already.

with regards to a 600 dollar axiom sub. don't. they couldn't do it with 1200 dollars, they can't do it with 600 dollars.

on a side note ... everyone seems to sing the MFW's praises and yet there are only a handful who actually has one. "things that make you go hmmm" i suggest you take them with a grain of salt lest you be immersed in too much hype.

if i had 1600 bucks right now and no other sub... i'd get the PB13 hands down, case closed, nuff said.

I sold my JL Fathom for an MFW and don't regret it one bit.

In fact, I liked them so much that after selling my Fathom for 1700 bucks I replaced it with 4 MFW 15's and really, really don't regret it one bit.

Bang for the buck you can't beat the MFW 15 and the customer service is fantastic with both companies.

There are downsides as depending on the finish you want on the MFW 15 you might have to wait 2 to 4 weeks for it. But other than that, you really can't beat them.

which fathom did you have?

we must have the same preference in bass output ... a sealed sub just cant match a ported sub in output.

do you have pics of your setup? before and after the MFW's? (JL and the new MFW's)

I can honestly say I like both, a JL in a small room for me has been fantastic.

I doesn't have the infrasonics like my SVS's but it definitely has great SQ.

I find it a pleasure to own both types...

I really got to get my @$$ in gear building my subs...

That is among the most ridiculous things I’ve heard in my life. Using 4 subs is an acoustic nightmare, and I’d bet a good sum of money you don’t have them placed properly to avoid cancelation. Unless you have a very large room and need multiple listening positions this makes little sense.

Well, I just read last night that someone said that the DVE calibration disc said that 4 or 5 subs is actually helpful. I don't own the DVE, but the Avia because I wanted the LFE sweep at that time. (My friend still hasn't returned it! )

Have you looked into this at all? Multiple subs provide a smoother response. Placement is still important, but it helps sort out room modes.
