LMAO ... With the 8 subs you have, you definitely are Mikesub. You are going to love dual Ultras ... and it is dual A7S-450 (S=Sealed) subs from ed, correct ?

Cool ... 500 pounds of subwoofers.

And it is wild ... I have been gone for a while, and come back to majorloser and Matt34 as mods ?

This is what Han Solo must have felt like when he was thawed out and found out that Luke was a Jedi ... :D

I see Sheep is still the same warm, friendly guy as always.

Sheep, if you can get your mom's permission, you are welcome to one of our meets this spring. Just bring a permission slip, ok ?
Hey Craig, good to see you posting.

How many data points on those graphs?

Some things are worth the wait, and if you're a fan of AV123 you've been waiting for the MFW-15 for a very long time. Well, the MFW-15 has finally been released and AV123 couldn't be prouder. The ~100 pound MFW-15 subwoofer, starting at $599 each, features a 25mm front baffle and plenty of bracing along with a custom designed 15” driver, 350 watt high efficiency design amplifier with separate control panel for Level, Phase and Low Pass Frequency at the top back of the cabinet and an internally folded slot port. The subwoofer is offered in beautiful Rosewood, Cherry, Black and the unique Moho.

Will AH be doing a review?

Craigsub, i've seen the scores you posted, but missed the impressions. Could you give us a paragraph review? What's are the strengths? Any weaknesses?

I'm going to recommend this sub to my friend who is piecing together a system. That sub's specs are awesome for the price. Nice finishes.

I am not convinced of that either. He is certainly knowledgeable, but Craigsub himself in his AVS thread last week pointed out an issue with Ilkka and microphone placement with one of Hsu's subs.
Actually, it was not an issue with Ilkka and microphone placements ... it was in the difficulty in selecting the proper microphone placement in a world in which too many place such a value on SPL only.

If one looks at a VTF-3.3 with turbo, how does one decide the location for the microphone to be placed, in order to be 2 meters away ?

I have my VTF-3 HO Turbo between my mains, and my MBM-12 across the room near my seating position. We stick the meter straight up and in the middle of the room. But just for fun ;).

craig was asking about mic placement in ground plane testing. most the other subs have the ports and drivers on one side of the subwoofer ... the HSU's are side firing and the ports are front firing, wherever you place the mic, you are losing db's as compared to the other ALL front firing subwoofers.

I guess my Feb. mad money just got used up! I ordered one of these bad boys to replace my M&K MX-200 used in a 2.1 setup. Hmmm, till March...In Satin Black.

It's new home will be next to an entertainment unit in the great room, hooked up to an Onkyo receiver (forgot model, some 2 channel unit). Can't wait.

Congrats man! I'm completely happy with my HSUs but these just look so damn good.....and from what I've seen and read so far they have the performance to match.

Of course if I did place an order it would have to be for a pair, just can't go back to one sub after have duals.;)

Just when were playing around, we'll crank the system up in 2.2 mode and play some dance/trance rave stuff with the meter hitting peaks of 110 db. Its LOUD but CLEAN. That mid bass module gets a work out, and really does a fantastic job.

Thank You! I LOVE my HSU Research products. Order an MBM-12 to hit warp drive with those Big Boys, you will not regret it.

Here is the summary for a single MFW-15:

5b. AV-123 MFW-15.

Listening results: The MFW-15 amazed the panel by largely matching the PB13 Ultra in all musical areas with the exception of pipe organ. Bass is deep, tight and powerful, with no overhang at all. The cabinet work done on this subwoofer is absolultely stellar, especially in its price range. By stellar, we mean just how inert it is. The cabinet barely vibrates during the most powerful passages, and this helps the MFW-15 to get its excellent musical rating. It is, as an earlier graph shows, very linear in its response curve, all the way to 100 Hz. It is in the area of slam an linearity that allows this subwoofer to match more high priced units. The Steely Dan disc on this subwoofer is a bass head's dream, with a lot of the panel requesting to hear it again after the test. Stanley Clarke was also as crystal clear on the MFW-15 as with any subwoofer we have had.

Measured results... 20 Hz - 105 dB ... 20-63 Hz average: 112 dB
And duals:

3c. AV123 MFW-15

Listening results: Pairing two MFW-15's does exactly what one would expect, it adds a signifigant amount of slam to the areas in which the single unit excelled. What a pair of MFW-15's does above 20 Hz is what makes it the 3rd alternative in the $1500 and under category for excellent performance for the $$$. On music, it is tight, clean and tuneful. It is the other sub combo the brought the Steely Dan 2AN disc to life. On movies, one will experience room shaking bass that is visceral, with the best slam of any subwoofer in its class. It is overshadowed below 20 Hz by the Castle and Ultra, and it will be up to the listener to decide which of the 3 "109 pointers" works best in his system.
