Audyssey sub settings quick questions before running

The gain/amp is set by a remote and I just keep turning it down until the indicator that was provided above is to the left of the green area where Audyssey wants it.
I have 2 RSL subs, a 12S and 10E. Yes they are different sizes but RSL said they designed them to work together and I confirm they do.

I like William's idea. Maybe just manually set levels on each sub vs using the remote. Maybe even doing a reset on the avr in case it's a glitch.

Yes, the first thing Audyssey does is go through the 2 sub levels one at a time. The above green spot it wants the subs. You set one and then the other.

Ok. So what happens if you set them each to be half way into the red on the left? This would only be to see what audyssey does. From what I remember, even though it’s not “in the green”, audyssey will ask if you want to proceed anyway. Select yes and it will still provide accurate EQ settings etc, but will just have the subs at the appropriate level. You can then bump the trim however you’d like. Or start over with the subs closer to the green but still in the red.

When I ran audyssey I was never satisfied with the bass output following calibration but that was the rooms fault not the software. When i was eventually able to do a good acoustical treatment including large bass traps in the corners the calibrations improved but i always gave the bass a boost to suit my personal tastes.

Many don't like the flatter response in bass Audyssey aims for at reference levels. Many boost level after running Audyssey. Curious, you use DynamicEQ to compensate at lower volumes?

I tried that and it still came out to be -12. That is why I'm so frustrated and have basically given up. I emailed Audyssey and then didn't get back to me. I'm not happy about that.

I don't use DynamicEQ. I'm not a big fan of thar kinda overprocessing stuff.

I do as well bump things up but would like to know what I'm boosting it up from as -12 tells me nothing except that it set it at the lowest level it can. Even it were -11.5 it would tell me something other than -12 because its just the lowest setting.

You’re exactly right. Just for fun, would you be willing to try calibrating just the 10e? Set the level all the way to the left in the red and see if that will get a different result? Otherwise I’d say there something wrong here. Seems really odd.

While you can say add 3dB and change it to -9dB trim level now, you just don't know if the avr trim level was correct for reference levels at -12 to begin with. If starting at -11.5 as reference Yes, if you changed from -11.5 it would be clear that any addition to reference is what you changed. I agree with William, odd results so far but still would generally lower the sub's gain level from where you last left it, then try Audyssey again.

So you don't use the Audyssey eq portion, you just use Audyssey to set levels/delays? Dynamic eq is just compensating for the way we hear various frequencies at various volume levels below reference levels (0 dB on your master volume once Audyssey is run)....I wouldn't call it overprocessing in any case....your recordings likely have been thru far more already in any case.
