Wow, that is cheap. I would expect that one would normally pay a few hundred for it. How did you get such a deal? It might be useful information for others.
White van special. They even had an assortment of tree branches I could bite on in lieu of anesthesia.

Seriously though, my insurance covered it. I think if paid out of pocket it was about $750.

You have a smart insurance company. They would be paying out a lot more over the years if they ended up paying for an extra dependent.

For those without insurance, I believe Planned Parenthood has a sliding scale of pay depending upon your income. There are other options as well, which, I imagine, someone could find by searching the internet for "vasectomy".

I find it slightly amusing that the banner ad shown while reading this thread was about finding your "Filipina Beauty"

I have always wondered why people like to go to strip clubs, unless they are fronts for houses of prostitution. Who wants to get all worked up, and then have no release? To me, that is worse than nothing.

I can understand someone being interested in visiting a prostitute, though I would never pay for sex myself. The idea that someone doesn't really want to have sex with me, but just wants my money, is something I find very off-putting. I can totally understand why you would feel like a loser if you were to use a prostitute.

Different people like different things.
i have been to a few strip clubs and i know its not somewhere i like to go, sure its nice to have girls dancing around but you cant touch then, your not gonna hook up with them so whats the point. you throw away money that could be used for get drunk and find some real girls you have a chance with. when we went it was because we had just turned 18 and wanted to check all this stuff out because we were finally old enough.

I have yet to meet any girl that desperate. Maybe I need to start visiting countries where food is a luxury item. Hmmm.

If you are serious, you might want to think carefully about why that might be the case, and seek out advice regarding dating and meeting people. Visiting this site, while useful for certain things, is not likely to help in that area.

My quick advice, for what it's worth, is to go out and do things that you like, that are such that you are likely to meet people. That way, you will be sure to have at least one common interest with them. Try to befriend some of them, and focus more on that than on trying to get a date (if you are looking for something long term, and not a one night stand). Try to treat men and women pretty much equally, keeping in mind that a lot of women will tend to be suspicious of you, because they have probably been approached countless times by various men who had one thing on their minds. After all, women are people too, and there isn't as much difference between them and men as some people imagine. They don't generally like being jerked around any more than men.

In my case, I met my wife, who is younger than I am, and we became good friends. Because of her age, the idea of a romantic relationship with her did not immediately enter my head (she also hid her beautiful body underneath baggy clothes, as she was not interested in attracting a man with her body; only with her mind). It was only after becoming the best of friends that we decided to take things in a romantic direction, and now we are very happy together. Generally, the people who have problems with their spouses seem to not be friends with each other. Marrying someone just because they are sexy is stupid, as even if one is spending 4 hours a day having sex, most of the time one is not having sex, so one must be able to get along together in a nonsexual way, or there will be problems.

Please tell me that you are kidding. Surely these types of relationships don't actually exist!
The point was, even if one is having a lot of sex, most of the time one isn't having sex.

Now, to your specific concern, such relationships do occasionally exist, though usually it isn't going to continue that way through a lifetime. (Probably, it never continues through a life time, but I would not want to declare absolutely something that I obviously could not know with certainty.) Other things get in the way, taking up one's time and effort, like earning enough money and etc.

Pyrro,

Thanks for the concern and the advice. I tend towards self-depricating humor, so I wasn't serious about traveling to a country full of desperate women looking for food. :) Maybe I should be serious about that, though. :D

No, you shouldn't be serious about that. Think of the kind of relationship that would be the outcome of such a search, and you will probably agree. A lot of people don't think about the long term aspects of their decisions, and end up making terrible mistakes. It is like the way GM has been run versus the way Toyota has been run. With GM, the focus has been on the next quarter profits, but with Toyota, the focus has been on the long term future of the company. If you want a long, happy relationship, you need to be thinking about the implications of your relationship 10 and 20 years (and further) into the future, not just what the next few months will be. If all one wanted is sex tonight, the standards would probably be pretty low. But if one wants to be happy with someone 30 years from now, one needs to be looking at the matter in a very different way.

My wife is out of town right now. I could, if I wanted to do so, go out and cheat on her. That would result in short term pleasure. But it would lead to trouble in the future that would not be worth any pleasure that I could possibly have tonight. Being a bit smarter than a total moron, I will avoid the future trouble. My wife, knowing that I am not a total moron, is not worried that I will cheat on her while she is away. It works out for the best all the way around. Some people, however, don't have the foresight to think about next week, and they always end up making a mess of their lives.

Anyway, if you look at the very first phrase of my post which you quoted, you will see an indication that I thought you might not be serious.

Just because you get married, that does not mean you have to have children. However, it is something you better agree about with your spouse, or there will be trouble, as there is no way to compromise on that: You either have a child or you don't, there is no halfway.

If you are sure you never want children, you should get yourself fixed. A vasectomy is safe, effective, convenient, and over a lifetime, inexpensive for birth control. Of course, if you are lucky, you are naturally sterile, and won't need it. I believe it is customary to test for sterility before they will perform a vasectomy, as they don't want to do unnecessary surgery, even if it is just band-aid surgery like a vasectomy.

Naturally, if you went out whoring afterwards, you would still need to use a condom, for its prophylactic value. But with a steady partner, when both you and she have been tested and found to be disease free, you don't need to do anything and can just have a good time, without worrying about an unwanted pregnancy and how you might otherwise end up paying child support for the next 18 years.
Dude, I have thought about it for sure. Its just I'm pretty young now and I'm afraid I'll want one at some point in the future. I'd like to know if I'm sterile or not though... if I'm sterile its a non-issue. They say ganja lowers your sperm count, well, mine should be pretty damn low then. I don't want to end up like Trick Daddy with 30 kids or some ****. Still a huge decision to make, i assume it isn't reversable...

You'd be surprised at all the consent forms I had to sign, as did my wife when I underwent the scalpel. It was actually scalpel-less, but I digress. One of the forms I signed was to acknowledge that I was going to be sterile, and that while reversible is successful in 40% of attempts (and costs $4k out of pocket, no insurance on that), reversal is not guaranteed and you cannot hold the doctors liable.

That all being said, that first numbing shot is a doozy, but the rest was more pain between my ears than anything else.

You can be tested for sterility without committing to a vasectomy, so if you are curious, you can find out. Of course, the test isn't typically free.

As for ganja lowering your sperm count, you certainly shouldn't count on that to keep you from becoming a father. A low sperm count isn't the same as being absolutely sterile. Men with low sperm counts have become fathers, and you don't want to accidentally become a father, even if eventually you want to become a father.

Generally, they say that you should not have a vasectomy if you ever want children, because it is somewhat more difficult, and somewhat unreliable, to try to reverse it. Still, there have been successful reversals, but I would not recommend counting on it. If you think you might want to have children in the future, you probably should either not get a vasectomy, or you should make up your mind and decide you never want children.

Also, if you go to get a vasectomy, you will be asked, over and over, if you are sure you want it, and are sure you never want children. If you ever waver, or hesitate, they will be likely to send you on your way without doing the vasectomy, as they don't want people to regret what is done.

From what I have been told from speaking with various people, most women are happier to have sex with a sterile man than with some sissy who is too afraid of getting a vasectomy. Think about it: If sex could lead to you getting pregnant, wouldn't you be more hesitant about it than you are now? But if having sex with a particular individual would be risk free, then that would make things different. I only met one woman who said she preferred having sex with someone who wasn't sterile, as it was more "exciting" to think that she could get pregnant. Generally, though, it seems that women tend to prefer not taking such dramatic risks. They usually are smarter than most men give them credit for, though, of course, there are stupid and crazy people of both genders.
