Arendal 1723 2V or SVS SB17?

The last thing I need to complete my dedicated HT room is subwoofers. The room is 17' long by 14' wide with a 10' ceiling. Because it's not a particularly large room, my subwoofer choices have been limited by the massive size of some subwoofers I might otherwise consider. That said, I'm pretty sure I've narrowed my choices to being between a pair of Arendal 1723 2Vs (ported) or SVS SB17 Ultras (sealed). As I see it, the depth of many subwoofers is simply too much. As an example, I would consider the SVS PB17, but it's over 29" deep - meaning it would protrude into the room 30", which is over 15% or the room's length. I imagine it would look too large for the room.

On the other hand, the subwoofers I'm considering have depths of only 23.6" for the Arendal and 21.2" for the SVS, so I thnk either would not look unduly massive in the room. I'm torn, the pair of vented 1723 2Vs might offer a bit more SPL below 25Hz, but the SB17s probably aren't far behind in that category and come in an even more compact dimension. Help! Which is the better choice for me?

If you have room for ported, then always ported over sealed.

I hear you over the footprint issue, but the physics of sound reproduction demand it.

I think when it comes down to it, if at all possible this technology requires a dedicated room. Getting good results in most homes I think is now next to impossible. That is why you now see a soundbar in every home you enter pretty much.

The 1723 2V will have more deep end output by virtue of being ported. Either sub will be good, but I would go for the ported sub if you are interested in deep bass.

Cmon now you know both of these statements are false. Many of us have gotten good results in our homes. And why is it all of a sudden NOW next to impossible. It’s not…..
And the real reason so many homes now have soundbars is NOT because good results are nearly impossible. It’s because for one thing, they think the soundbar IS good results. And all without the complexity of multi component systems.
Imo, soundbars are for the lazy and unanointed. Oh and WAF too. The stoopidest thing ever.(at least left unchecked).

Under no circumstances do you ever choose a subwoofer based on looks.

You choose it based on room size and bass needs for the room and or preferences.

Gosh, I thought I was doing that. My room size? As originally mentioned, 17" long. Given the room length, the optimized Dolby Atmos mix position is 11''5" from the front wall. Given the depth of say, for example, a SVS PB17 of 30", I prefer not to sit with two massive subwoofers a mere 8.5' or so from my sitting position. Bass needs? That's why I posed the question and received the answer I needed from the person whose opinion I would consider most informed (thank you, Shady J). Preferences? Let's see, a pair subwoofers that provide the most clean, deep bass while not overwhelming a medium sized room with their size. Oh wait, I think I chose following your suggested subwoofer selection criteria precisely.

Your room is actually not that small. One benefit of having the subs closer you'll get more tactile response. 8.5' is still a good distance away. Many use subs as end tables on the sides of the seating. However if you want to do it right and do it once and don't mind spending a couple thousand more than this
or this
would be my choice. Both are only 22.5" deep. And both will outperform a PB17 by a fair amount.

you are rejecting some subwoofers based on size and how it looks in the room.
You need to figure out whether those ones are the ones you need in the room rather than saying no due to aesthetics reasons.
You're saying one then then the next comment is basically un doing the first one.

How would you feel if you choose the smaller modles only to be disappointed and underwhelmed?
