I am sorry, I meant *4 processor (right there above).

I wanted to say- why not compare the processors that other brands use and that Apple uses?
Huh!! Some problem with my keyboard I think.

All the time I have been wanting to say *4 (*4), but I dont know why the star mark comes in.

I hope this time it comes as "*4". Actually, the processor that APPLE is using now with its iBooks and powerbooks.

I am praying this time for the correction. I hope it is alright this time. I am posting it finally.

SORRY readers (the serious readers in this thread) for the botherance that I created. Sorry !!

I have put on this so that ppl who dont know the conversions, might get some help out of it.
And moreso, I LIKE IT!! Thaz the biggest of reasons...
Right?

Hey people!

somebody told me this: (plz temme how far is this true and correct. i just wanted to conform it, coz i have never worked on a iBook or a powerbook)

it goes like this: "Based on what you’re doing, I’d say any powerbook and most iBooks will work for you. Since you’ve got a desktop I doubt you’re going to need all of the powerbook’s extra abilities, but thats something you’ll need to decide. In regards to speed, I don’t notice much of a difference between my 1 GHz iBook and my brother’s laptop (AMD Athlon 3000+ processor) so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

While you should try out both the iBook and the Powerbook, go with what you can afford and like. To me there’s isn’t much difference between my 12″ iBook and most of the AlBooks I was trying out."

i guess he's true and very correct, and if thaz the matter, then i think the iBook will suffice on almost all grounds... right?

djoxygen, any comments??

It means you don't have the conversions correct and I gave you the correct ones. If you use that sig to help people, you should give them factual info.

Everything in computer science is based on the binary number system - powers of two. 1Kb is 2^10=1024 NOT 1000. 1Mb = 2^20=1Kb*1024, etc.

Hey friend,
I solely agree to what u say.
I agree on the point of 1024 and not 1000.
Though I put on this msg coz I dint think someone will take it sooooo seriously and be so pin-pointed.
But I was wrong, and hence, I will remove this right way.
Thanx for helping out on this correction.
Though I know its a minor one, but even this counts.
Every small thing counts!!
So thanx!!

PS: If you check out my log-in name, it says "brontobyte.1024", which shows I do understand, but I was still negligent about it. I agree, and I rectify. See down below for my sig now. U will see the correct conversions now!!

djoxygen hasnt *** online for some days.
I guess hes been sort of busy.

My plans of buying the IB/PB are still help up.
But I am getting more convinced about the iBook.
After hearing and knowing and researching so many things about the iBook versus Powerbook dilemma.

But I will still wait till djoxygen comes in here.
And of course, till I get the entire money to buy that iBook.

Yeah, I so blindly agree to what u sayin.
See the poll that u had started.
So many people saying iBook is better.
Till now, its 22 people voting for the iBook.
I pointed this out on earlier ocassion to djoxygen, but he hasnt seen it though.
I hope he has the answers.

Hey Johnny,
Any idea where u can earn quick or good money on the net, by doing some decent and good job. I am not askin abt the lotteries and all those stuff that involve the element of chance.
So that I can pull up my socks for the money I need to buy my Apple machine.

djoxygen,
a few querries need to be solved by you.

What is a SMB?
What is a SAMBA?
What do u mean when u say, "server with some kind of authentication"?
Hey guys/girls - haven't got totally caught up yet. Work's been pretty busy the last few days. Apologies if answers have already been found for these questions - I'm catching up in chronological order.

SMB is a Windows method of file sharing that stands for Server Message Block.

SaMBa is an open source (Linux/Unix) way of sharing using the same protocol. Built into Mac OS X as "Windows File Sharing".

If the Windows network at your office has a computer that acts as a gateway to the Internet and requires some kind of password to get from the internal network to the rest of the world, it may take some fiddling in OS X to get it to work. In my experience this isn't as common as it was in the '90s, but I can't begin to speculate on your situation. Most of the time, OS X will find its own way out to the 'net just fine, though.

I know it will be a lil difficult, but yeah, I can try to manage with the 60GB memory on my IB.
I will lessen down on the mp3s.
Dont think it will be a real hard thing to do.
I have many songs which i listen very rarely, but i listen to.
I can remove them, and store only whaz necessary.

But, whats an external FireWire ?
You can use iTunes "Smart Playlists" to filter out the mp3s you don't listen to very often or rate low (out of 5 stars) to a folder which could be archived as mp3s on CD-R or DVD-R. This could be done on your current system before you make the transition.

Ext FireWire drive would be an ATA drive mounted in an external case with a FireWire/IEEE1394/i.Link (all the same thing) interface. More expensive, but more flexible than internal ATA drives.

djoxygen,
Is there anyway so that I can shift my files/documents from the desktop (WINDOWS XP PRO) to the IB/PB without buying $50 software. Or else it will cost me another INR 2500.
I was thinking abt this: I have my Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm. So can I joind it sumhow to the notebook, and transfer my files onto the notebook? Or can I shift via some wirelink?
You can always burn CDs and DVDs. The software/hardware kit just tries to match up preferences between email apps, network settings etc. Nothing you can't do by hand.

Your Seagate Barracuda (if it's a 3.5" internal drive) won't fit in the iBook case. You can buy empty FireWire/USB cases to put it in and use it on the iBook, which will read most Windows drive formats.

Ethernet (or other network) is, of course, an option, but pretty slow if you've got a ton of files.

Seems more people have voted for the iBook than the PB?
I wonder why?
Hope u have an answer as always...
Personal preference. As is mine for the PB. Everyone's needs, wants, and budget are different. My opinion is only my opinion.

My biggest issue with iBook vs. PB is the size of the built-in monitor. For my usual usage, 1024x768 just isn't enough pixels, but for some people it will be just fine. There isn't enough difference in the speed of the CPU between the models for most people to notice day-to-day. Only if you're rendering 3D, video, photoshop or other complex computations.

I'm sure you can set your desktop monitor of your current system to 1024x768 in the Display Control Panel and try it out. If you're used to a 15" monitor, then no problem, but if you normally use 17" or larger, the iBook is going to seem really cramped.
