Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter has found her follow-up gig -- and she's staying in law enforcement.

'Dexter's' Jennifer Carpenter Talks Deb's Final Journey, Justice for Dex

The actress, who played Miami Metro detective Debra Morgan for eight seasons on the Showtime drama, has been tapped to star in ABC's drama pilot Sea of Fire, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
STORY: TV Pilots 2014: The Complete Guide
Based on the Dutch format Vuurzee, the drama centers on three teenage girls in a small town who star in a pornographic film and the effect it has on their families. It leads to a disappearance, a murder and a host of other secrets boiling under the surface.
Carpenter will play FBI Agent Leah Pierce -- a driven, eccentric and blunt woman with a secret in her past -- who has few people skills compared with her partner, Marty. She's called in by Marty's deputy to investigate the disappearance of a young girl and winds up alienating the town with her raw and uncompromising questions.
Scandal's Jenna Bans will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios, Sony Pictures Television, Scripted World and Mandeville production. Rob Golenberg, Alon Aranya, David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, Laurie Zaks, Robert Kievit and Frank Ketelaar also will executive produce. Allison Liddi-Brown will direct the pilot.

STORY: 'Dexter's' Jennifer Carpenter Talks Deb's Final Journey, Justice for Dex
Carpenter wrapped the Showtime serial killer drama last year and said in a September interview with THR that she was ready to go back to work. "I want to find something great, but I'm daring and patient enough to find something that I can give everything to," she said.
She is repped by WME, Untitled and Jackoway Tyerman; her credits also include Quarantine and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

I loved Dexter. I didn't like how the series ended, but I didn't hate it like some people. Why? Because Dexter wasn't killed off. I hate it when the main character dies. :D

So I will watch this new limited series. But if they are going to bring this series back for only 1 season just to KILL off Dexter "properly", I will definitely HATE it. :D

He should have just left to be with his kid. End of story.

This will maybe fix that whole thing. Or they'll take it in some other nonsensical direction.

I want to watch, but I'm skeptical because of how badly they ended the last season. I also think it's a bit odd they waited this long to make it.

I do hope it's good though.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The first 5 seasons were some great tv and kept me riveted. I think they know they dropped the ball with the conclusion so hopefully they got their ducks in a row for this sequel. I do want to watch it, and I'm gonna, but I dunno if I want to wait a week between each episode or let it go for a few weeks and binge. I'm Netflix spoiled.

I've been watching and am caught up to episode 6 now. It could be nostalgia but I'm really enjoying it so far! It didn't take long for things to get sticky for ol' Dexter, and once again my wife and I find ourselves rooting for a serial killer, lol. So far so good. I'm giving it a thumbs up recommendation with a pretty good return to form. Definitely better than where things left off at the original ending.

Up to episode 7 now and it's a pretty good return to form. They manage to ratchet up the tension in every episode, building on each previous. I'm officially sucked in and can't wait to see how it concludes.

The show runners for this new season are the same group responsible for the first 4 seasons that everyone seems to have loved, before things started going downhill in seasons 5 through 7.

Am I the only one watching this so far?
