Is that a really good player? How about for playing CDs etc?

Edit: I see a lot of AH liking it and recommending it.

How about FLAC playback? It says supported and external HDD supported? But I don't seem to see a USB port on the limited Amazon pics? Is it only off SD?

Supported file types include MP4, AVCHD, JPEG, MPO, FLAC and MP3. Although support DivX and Xvid files is missing(read you can rename the files to work), the external HDD playback functionality is still pretty good because it can read NTFS-formatted drives. The SD card can also handle standard SD and SDHC formats along with the newer SDXC format. USB is on the FRONT right of the player and USB also on back of the player for Communication Camera only(SKPE?). Hope this helps. I ended up buying a Sony BX59/590 for less than 70$ shipped two days ago so...

I'm waiting for it's replacement, the BDT230. For one thing, the 230 with have dlna and let me stream videos from my PC.

Well, I've been drooling over the Oppo 105 (and the 95 before that).

But for less than 10% of the price, this Panny is pretty dang appealing.

Well......$80 for the Panny, FLAC playback from HDD is one of the main things I wanted, and Amazon's return policy, I just couldn't resist. Just ordered it.

I really want an Oppo, but now I have an extra $420 or $1120 in my pocket as compared to an Oppo. That's $ that can go to other electronics or hobbies :)

The Sony BX59/590 does that.
OK. But it's a Sony.

From personal experience, I am anti-Sony :(

If it ain't a Playstation or a Walkmen, then I boycott Sony.

Full disclosure:
I own PS3 and have owned PS2, PS1, and walkmen.
Any other Sony product I ever owned was garbage and the customer service sucks.

Also, Panny was the producer of the greatest turntable ever produced, Technics SL-1200:p I'm sure that can be a hot debate.

I never had a problem with the Sony 570 BD player It work flawlessly until it drowned. Hopefully the BX59/590 will do the same. I just need BD playback, so the Sony should do that just fine. The Roku XS(Plays multiple files via SD or HD) will do the rest.:D

Glad you like it KEW. I like the Netflix interface better than the Sony 570/Roku XS, hopefully that will change with the Roku update in April. Did you try the Internet browser on the 590/BX59 KEW? although it's limited it's pretty cool to have. I'm sure they sell a remote for it to function better. It loaded pages very quickly. The Panasonic DMP-BD87 that zieglj01 gave me works great too, just wanted a backup + it was cheap since the new models are coming out.:D I don't use Hulu so I can't comment, but entry is fine with Amazon and Netflix.

I only played with the browser one time. I already had one of these with my laptop, which is my go-to for internet browsing on the TV. With patience, they are often discounted to about $45:

That might work for your young eyes, but between the size of the characters and low lighting to watch TV, a non-lit mini-keyboard is not even a consideration for me.
(besides, I don't need another!)
