I have built several HT systems.

I have heard B&W 805s on Mcintosh tube gear. Many times.

I have heard B&W 802D on Mcintosh 1k mono blocks.

I have built may competition car systems.

I have never, ever heard anything like this.

Ever.

I am only using the cd player and amp. Nothing has been level matched. Just two MB Quart 830's. It's nuts.

I can't even pull myself away long enough to get the multimeter, much less set-up the Quad pre.

Oh guys, this is it.
I have heard the 805 S with Musical Fidelity and Bryston.

I have heard the 802D with the same.

I have not built any car system, but

I have always used a CD player with my power amp.:D:D Theoretically there is nothing wrong with that as long as you can keep the interconnects short, I use the 1 meter short ones.

I have heard 805s, and 705s with Musical Fidelity.

Once I heard the 805 beside the 705, there was no comparison.

I did not hear the 805 with Musical Fidelity at the same time I heard 805 with the Mcintosch 275, but I am certain I prefer the Mac tube.

I heard the 802D(Mack solid 1k blocks) at the same time, in the same room, as the 805/275 set-up.

There is no way either compares to what I am hearing at the moment.

Just nuts. I am in a very small room, with boxes of speakers all over the place. And, my drum set. Amp, and cd player are sitting on top of the box the amp came in. That is the distance the speakers are separated. Just set-up to check the pre, and can't even bring myself to doing it.

Quad 99 pre-amp

Got the Quad 99 pre-amp going.

Display is dated.

Functions are on par with Jaguar electrical systems. You have to use a combination of pressing the balance and volume controls to make eq and "tilt" adjustments. Very odd, but it does aid in keeping a very clean look. The good part of this is that you are able to overcome bad recordings. Also, your desired sound can be found. You like warm, it can be made warm. You like flat, you bet. So all the flat snobs can be satisfied, and all the folks who prefer a little enhancement can be satisfied as well. You are not stuck with a "sound signature." You have the ability to create whatever "sound signature" you desire.

Same goes for speakers. Speakers too bright? It can fix it. Not enough bass? Fix that too. Need more mid? Coming right up.

Do I like it? Very much so.

Does it perform better than just the cd player alone? Very much so.

Am I gonna keep it? You bet.:D
