Realistic 4"

I don't know who made these little Realistic 4" and tweets back in the day, but these little suckers kick. On top of that, they have been in the weather in my shop for over eleven years. Stunning, and I am not kidding.

You have to realize I have never put this kind of power on them. I am sold on the fact that more power is better no matter what.

My amp manual was not in the Denon archive file on the website.

Emailed Denon.

Received my manual via PDF in less than half a work day.:D;)

Superb.:D

I have a pair of those that I bought from Radio Shack years ago. From memory, they sound okay but not very good. I bought them when they were on a big sale so I did alright.

I think I paid $20 or $30 for them in '83 or '84.

Sold them to a friend for $40 today.:D

He could not believe what he heard. He has a B&W HT.

I thought I paid 59.99, regular price was 99.99 or something like that, certainly not cheap at the time. I should dig it out and A/B them with my Energy RC mini.:D

Thanks for telling me how you drove them with tons of power without damaging them. I would not dare driving them with my 4B SST otherwise. Back then I bought them for one of my TV.

Be aware that I am just using the gain on the cd player, while utilizing the cd inputs on the amp. I have no idea of the signal being sent to the amp to amplify. That was my main point of this thread.

I have no idea of the actual power I am getting. I have had my Yamaha CD player since the late 80's. I never even knew there was an amp with dedicated cd inputs til I found this one.

I have yet to connect the new Quarts. I think I am going to wait on the Quad pre-amp to get here.

Do you know what the input sensitivity spec is for the amplifier. Most amps are less than one volt unbalanced input, but it can vary a lot. Determine that and use a multi-meter to set the output voltage from your source device.

1.3v input for the cd inputs.

1v for the normal.

But I am wanting to set the gains on the amp using the clean sweep cd.

For example, my JL 300/2 has a target gain of 24.5V@4ohm for the rated spec of 150W with a 3/4 volume from the source to allow for reasonable overlap with moderate clipping at full power.

My goal is to use the same principle, while targeting a lower wattage(less than the 300WPC the Denon will do @4ohm) to keep my amp below clipping while delivering a little above max rated power for my speakers.

Target of 200WPC@4ohm.

Then, as long as I never crank it full volume, I will never over-power my speakers.

I am fairly sure once I receive my pre-amp, and utilize the "normal inputs", the output will be greater.

Either way, I can set a target gain for each channel utilizing either set-up.

Finding stuff here and there for different amps.

17.3v----75w@4ohm
24.5v----150w@4ohm
25.3v----160w@4ohm
31.6v----250w@4ohm

If my math is correct, then 27.9v should be close for 200w@4ohm.

28.28427V will get you that.:D

Good Lord man!

Opening my new Quarts, and I forgot the passion these Germans not only built into the speakers, but the passion they used in the packaging of such a fine product.

Words can't explain.:)

The way the glass tops were double bubble wrapped, and tapped to the bottom of the speaker as it came out of the double box. Just perfection.

Listening to Porcupine Tree blu-ray as I set the system-up. Fantastic.

Fingers crossed.:D

I have built several HT systems.

I have heard B&W 805s on Mcintosh tube gear. Many times.

I have heard B&W 802D on Mcintosh 1k mono blocks.

I have built may competition car systems.

I have never, ever heard anything like this.

Ever.

I am only using the cd player and amp. Nothing has been level matched. Just two MB Quart 830's. It's nuts.

I can't even pull myself away long enough to get the multimeter, much less set-up the Quad pre.

Oh guys, this is it.
