Thanks. I'm aligned with neither party for the time being. I lean pretty far right economically, but I'm very pro-science, I like the environment (though not our current level of red tape), and I like legal immigration, to name a few positions. What the hell am I? Beats me if I know any more.
Haha that's awesome. It makes it more fun when you get to play both sides right? I think most people are actually in the middle if they can throw personal feelings aside. I wont lie, a lot that obama did was good but at the same time I can complain about what went wrong, right?

Nothing happenin' over here, guys!! :p:D:p:D:p:D:p:D:p:D:p

Let's not kid ourselves that the market gains yesterday came as a result of any "improvement" to NAFTA. It had more to do with relief that NAFTA had been preserved.
Keeping NAFTA about the same is, IMO, a good call. So we got about the right outcome for a lot of silly drama, and at the cost of unnecessary animosity with perhaps our best ally on the planet.
That was a whole lot of churn over some pretty minor changes. The dairy farmers up here have their noses out of joint over an increased U.S. imports quota, but with the Donald's fixation on cows, I don't think there was much choice but to throw him a bone.

One change that I like is the increase in the Canadian de minimis threshold for duty-free shopping - from $20, to $150. I'd like to see it higher, but I'll take it.

Right there with you. Being in TX, people here like to draw lines. My brother-in-law told me the thought I was liberal. My reply was "maybe on this subject".

I could never align myself to a specific party or way of thinking. Couldn't ever say I agreed 100% with one specific belief system or another. I'm no sheep.

Unlike some people who vote for just their party while not knowing what they are actually voting for lol. Markets look good again, I dont care who's in office, but credit needs to be given, not excuses. I myself prefer someone who will put some consumer 'faith' back into the economy. Low markets will never get us where we need to be. Record highs, hopefully they sustain and keep moving forward.

For me it's personal this time. I don't like A-holes. A good economy is not a good trade off for half the country hating the other half, womens rights going down the toilet and racism making a come back. F that.

Not to bash obama, but look at the numbers before and after his presidency. The insane amount of separation he caused. Everyone has a voice, yes. Everyone matters, well no $hit. During his terms he divided and created new 'groups' not because we or they want to be equal, we or they want it known that they are different.

Saw a headline today with loads of people bashing it. "US halting visas for same-sex partners of diplomats"

No one read the damn article, you know what else it halts? The visas for opposite-sex partners. The kicker, there are exemptions for same-sex partners but not opposite-sex. That's not being treated equal, it's making a point known that same-sex partnerships are different so let's go ahead and set exemptions for them, cater to them, not as equals but as they are, for some reason, different.

Womens rights? Again Obamas loved wife who called women stupid, real role model for equal rights there, tip o the hat.

Racism making a comeback? When did it go away? In college there was a group for African Americans, no joke, 'loud and proud' they were able to walk around campus ignoring curfews 'quiet hours' didnt matter if in the library or a student housing lobby or hallway. They had their own 'rights' because they felt different. Well heres a hint, dont be a distraction and people wont view you differently. Ignorant? I wasnt trying to be. I actually had friends in that group.

I get it, Republicans are more harsh, but they also take on/teach individual responsibility. Want to 'fit in' then do so. Want to be yourself, go ahead. There is such a thing as social norms, respect, a certain amount of responsibility. When was life ever fair? Who told anyone life is fair? You dont have to follow those, but UNFORTUNATELY what do you expect is gonna happen when a dude walks into the womens bathroom or vice versa? Again UNFORTUNATELY.

What numbers are you referring to before and after Obama's presidency?

Obama didn't cause the separation as much as the old white guard of racist assholes who shat their pants because he was president and did everything to obstruct him/tear him down....and this is something the republicans were particularly on board with. Definitely agree the racism I saw growing up has never really gone away, and has roared back to life particularly under the drumpf; while Obama's presidency may have indeed sparked its return, it is flourishing under the current asshole who thinks there are good nazis and klansmen. It's often embarassing to be causasian in this country let alone sympathize with caucasians who cannot empathize with what it is/was like growing up black in Amerika.

Where do you get that Michelle Obama called women stupid, tho?

Republicans are harsh is an understatement. That' they're about individual responsibility is generally a joke in my mind, they're more into authoritarianism and follow the fascist leader crap than most and resist any change because of fear. Remnds me of all the crazy old people who freaked out about long hair when I was growing up or women demanding equal rights or other repressed social issues bucking "tradition". The odd religious coalition of "christian" evangelists and republicans who largely aren't showing any "christianity" whatsoever is another fascinating aspect. Or being afraid of the possibility of a transgender person using a bathroom....someone needs a kick in the ass if that's a problem.

Many of our political problems are due the money in politics and the Repubs/Dems dividing the kitty up with no competition and keeping everyone one on "side" vs the other. I'd love to see both de-fanged by removing the money from their campaigns, maybe even disbanding both and starting over.

In my small bubble of a world racism made a huge comeback after the election. And I'm in Rural America. Maybe this is wrong in other places, but rang true for me so convincing me that a large population of closet racists didnt vote for trump is going to be difficult. And by the way, 99% of racists are in the closet. As a white man I've heard it all. Other whites seem to think its ok to make comments and jokes around other white people, as if we are all part of the same club. They're generally shocked when I respond negatively to them. But they wont dare say anything if another race is around.

Couple Examples:
One of my brothers whos always been a closet racist got very vocal and out of the closet after the election. He was in a department store with my father (who didnt raise him) and my son. He wanted to buy a bbq grill. He asked the guy working there how to buy it. The guy (who was spanish) said I'm sorry sir we are out of stock on that one. My brother said, well sell me this one right here. The employee said "Im sorry, but were not allowed to sell that one, its a display model. "My brother then yelled loud enough for the entire store to hear "IF I WAS ANYTHING BUT WHITE YOU WOULD SELL ME THAT ONE!" My teenage son was so embarrassed that he walked out of the store and found his own way home. My father and I got together a few days later and uninvited him to Thanksgiving and neither of us have spoken to him since. This was last year or the year before, cant remember. Doesnt matter, he doesnt exist to me any more.

The day after the election I walked into work and over heard one of my bosses, the vice president, telling his secretary how excited he was and couldnt wait for trump to start throwing all the muslims out of this country. I started raging and walked in and told him the next time they wanna share some racist bull sht to shut the door and keep to themselves. I then called an immediate staff meeting to explain to everyone in the office that one of our bosses was a racist and they should be aware of it. Most of them are spanish btw. So now he is out of the closet too I guess, but he tries to pretend it never happened.

So you can try to convince me all day long that trump supporters are not racist or sexist, but I know for a fact that most of you are. Not all, but enough.

Hey look I got a response that wasn't just name calling lol (sry gotta poke a little)
Unless were on the side dealing with racism, your right, we wont fully get it. Sometimes I think its brought up 'preached and teached' to continue to be an issue rather than trying to resolve the issues at hand. (Not implying it needs to be shrugged off and forgotten like yesterday's news)
I say reps are more about personal responsibility than dems more so in the far left, the 'democratic socialist' that begs for handouts because life is unfair (not saying you are one of those)
The money in politics, 100% agree. The lobbying that goes on as well. It's just part of 'the game', the game needs to end. Who was the first president to receive a salary (and dont bring up trumps nonsense with his lol, irrelevant)

Side note, I do appreciate the response. As I said before I'm not in this thread to argue, but to gain and learn. It's always interesting to me to see where others stand and why.

LOL might have just gotten in the crossfire with the ridiculous posts of the pussy blowing bubbles.

I'm not a particular fan of what is considered left or right by those who would have it being on one side or another...

Your characterization of democratic socialism is a bit strange, considering the amount of socialism the repubs endorse. What moves us forward better is more my thought....you know, being somewhat progressive rather than stagnant or repressive. Republicans seem to want to turn back the clock these days, in way too many ways, scientifically, politically and morally.

The Republicans endorse? You are familiar with sir Bernie Sanders right?
Left vs right is one side vs the other...again I'm not stuck on the right or the left...
Pussy blowing bubbles, makes me laugh, you really are that hell bent over trump. I wouldn't lose as much sleep as you if clinton was elected, I would however pull all my funds from the market and watch it burn. Get over yourself and do something productive. Unless its trolling the web for your own personal gains...no one cares...

Too true. I'm a centrist by nature - my social views are pretty progressive, while I lean a bit to the right where it concerns economics. That said, in specific instances, I may skew in opposite directions - it just depends on the situation.
There was a Canadian politician, Tommy Douglas, who defied the Social-Democratic stereotype. He was a Baptist minister before entering politics. When his party was elected to power in the province of Saskatchewan, back in the 1940's, his government brought in the first public health care system in North America. The entire North American medical establishment lined up against him, but he prevailed. The success of the system was what prompted the federal government to eventually establish public health care nation-wide. It's far from perfect, but as far as I'm concerned, your access to health care should never depend on your ability to pay for it.

What may really surprise right-wingers, is that along with the social programs he implemented, his government produced sixteen straight annual budget surpluses - he just did not want to be beholden to bankers. On a trivial note, Tommy Douglas was the grandfather of Kiefer Sutherland.

You're quite right about Republicans (and other conservative parties around the world) socialist tendencies. The multitude of tax-breaks, subsidies and bail-outs available to the wealthy are de facto welfare measures. But they aren't considered welfare by their beneficiaries, they're just "incentives".

Most of us in the middle are her BECAUSE we throw our personal feelings aside. If we didn't, we'd be on one side, or the other.

Thinking about this stuff works much better than feeling or way through it.
