advise needed - 3-way powerful car speaker

Hi everyone,

My idea is to put a 3-way speakers in the back of my car. If easily possible it should be able to move it out of the car and get a cheap 230v to 12V converter to use it without the car.
But so far I don't know how the wattage-proportions of the planned 3-way system should be.

Planned for now:

~100W 100-10 000 Hz mid range speaker: (not decided yet)

The system apparently doesn't need to sound perfect but somewhat acceptable. Fine tuning can be done with an eq. The sound should be optimized for outdoor use and not for listening in the car.

Is there some power missing in the mid-range frequency? I know it's hard to just determine by the watts but I would greatly appreciate some suggestions out of experience.

Just get the right products for the right application, you will be happier in the end because it will work.

Without a crossover designed for those components to work together and a box designed to work with the sub driver chosen, it will not produce proper sound. EQ is not going to fix those issues.

Why would you even think about using electronics made to work with 230VAC when so many manufacturers make head units, amplifiers and processors with a DSP? You need car audio equipment. Or, you could use marine audio equipment, if the vehicle will be in an environment where humidity is high.

You don't low pass a midrange speaker at 10KHz when the tweeter is crossed over at 4KHz- you don't need overlap in that area and it will never sound good. Well, unless your ears are deficient in that range.

'Cheap' and 230VAC-12VDC converter (power supply) don't go together. The power supply needs to be able to handle the current and a cheap one won't.

Since you didn't specify the midrange driver, there's no way to know what will be lacking or in excess.

It doesn't need to be 'perfect', but if it won't sound really good, why bother? I used to install car audio systems for people who were working with a tight budget and they sounded really good, but that was possible because I let the drivers do what they can, not by trying to force them to do what they can't.

Hi Andi, the bottom line is this forum is dedicated to Home Audio. Car audio is whole another matter. While some members here have more experience with car audio, your best bet is to ask this at a car-audio-specific forum where you will likely get better answers.

Look, The above people pretty much summed it up. It can be done, had a friend YEEEEARS ago do that, more headache than anything. He ended up swapping everything out with actual car audio speakers and it was much better.
