Like most "art" these days, one person's art is another person's garbage. I think those are ugly, and would not want them unless they sounded better than everything else in and below their price range. Even then, I would not like it. Maybe they could be hidden behind an acoustically transparent curtain...
I think a lot of the high end is really about looks, and has nothing whatever to do with actual sound performance. Some things look impressive (even if ugly), and therefore many people like it, regardless of how it really sounds. I will presently refrain from giving any examples of what I mean, as I do not wish to engage in a nasty discussion of overpriced garbage at the moment. Suffice it to say, however much some people say it is all about the sound, they decide what to hear based upon other considerations. And they virtually never listen blind with level matched equipment, so they have not eliminated non-sound considerations from their decisions of what is "better".
