Watched this on Sat in HD. All I can say is I loved it and it is the best comic adaptation to date.

I tuned out the grain after a while and just enjoyed the ride. :D I thought the LFE was good especially when the rhino skidded to the ground.

Frank Miller is king. Now if only they would do his Batman.:rolleyes:

I ran out and bought a copy as soon as it was released on DVD last tuesday, and I'll have to admit that I was a little disappointed. I think the tremendous hype got the better of me because I did think it was a good movie, but it was far from greatness as the hype would suggest.

I think they should have developed the main characters to make them feel more real. I found that I didn't really care when the Greeks were slaughtered because they seemed like anonymous cartoon characters. I thought the visuals and audio were outstanding, but the character development was horrible. Without developed characters, the remaining onslaught was rather meaningless, IMO.

As the movie progressed, I found myself longing to watch Gladiator for the umteenth time. In fact, as soon as 300 ended, I did watch Gladiator:)

Gladiator=Greatness
300=Good, but far from great

Frank Miller & company should watch Batman Begins to get a valuable lesson on how to bring cartoon characters to life on the silver screen.

I agree. I thought the video and audio were great, but the story came across a bit too simple, likely owing to the graphic novel base as it's approach. They even mentioned it in the extras "This is the story filtered through Frank Miller..." The limited pallet went a long way to giving it that graphic novel look and I enjoyed that, but at times it was a bit too muted. I liked the visual style overall, but a few of those funky slo-mo/zoom in edits didn't really work for me. The grain didn't bother me, as it seemed to fit the film. I liked it, but I don't expect to watch it many more times. I went into it expecting an action flick and it delivered on that level. I didn't expect any character development - that wasn't the point of this movie.

Guys, watch the special features.

The story you watch is what is being told throughout the movie. Notice how at the beginning he has the eye patch? Because you cut between the story being told from his perspective, and what is happening after the battle, before the entire Greek army goes to war.

I actually kind of liked it; it was a littel too "simple" but enjoyable. I would have to assume the sound was great as I had my $49 Sony's hooked up as my mains and it still sounded really good. I will watch it again when my Paradigms get out of the hospital.

I need to put a sign on my AVR that says "do not play in Pure Direct when you are drunk". I tend to listen way too loud after a few drinks and this usually doesnt pose a problem when my cross-over and sub are active but seems to blow the woofer half way out of the cabinet otherwise...

No big deal; they will be out of the hospital next week and my amp, new speaker wire and new banana plugs should be here around a week after that.

Dont worry; I didnt get all crazy on wire and bananas. Just figured while I have everything pulled away from the wall, I might as well replace the 16 or 14 awg, 12 year old wire with some new 10 awg stuff. (parts express)

I watched it yesterday and really liked it although it moved a little slow and I had to get out of History channel mode. It's a movie, I get it but it's hard to get past the real history of that event, WOW.

Anyways, loved the effects and the patina of the film overall. I'm blown away by 1080p, period. I feel like a little kid again.

I guess I'm too old

Sure am glad I didn't buy it. I couldn't tell whether it was supposed to be a movie, or a video game that someone else was playing. The sound was good, but so what. :(

I have never quite seen a movie like this before. Perhaps the first time I have seen an entire movie use cinematography like one finds in some music videos.

None the less, I think it deserves a 6 out of 10. Pretty decent. I did not fall asleep.

My sentiments exactly.
I rented this one, (on BluRay), and decided that I would pass on buying it.
