Hey first off im kinda new to the whole home audio setup... Im either going to get the onkyo 606 or 906 receiver. I need help choosing some speakers:

I want 4 Floorstanding speakers:
I listen to a lot of music and watch a lot of movies. I want it to be LOUD!!!!not really bass thumping annoying like knocking pictures off the wall... I want a small amount of tight bass, EXCELLENT mids and highs. I was looking at the polk monitor 70s, or the diva by swans... Can anyone recommend some good floorstanding speakers for me.

I rarely will reccomend speakers or components on forums since I havent heard alot of whats out there, But from your description of what you want, I truly believe that the Axiom M80 would be a logical choice for what your needs are.

If you buy them from the factory outlet you can get close to your 2k budget. Although you will likely want to consider external power amplfiers if you were to get 4 of these and intend to listen at high levels.

Ok well can you look at the onkyo tx-nr906 and tell me if you think its powerful enough to power the m80's. They handle up to 400 watts thats a lot of power. I am going for kind of a movie theater sound i mean i want bass that vibrates you bass that you can feel, but not that annoying booming bass..

Just good a good quality sub from svs, hsu, and others, you can get the elt 5.0 set and 2 mfw-15 subs (av123) for just over your budget and that will give you all the theater sound your looking for;)

i am going to recommend a pair of wharfedale diamond speakers, they have very clear high and mid without sounding harsh even at loud volume levels. Made in England, i own a pair of diamond 9.5 floor standers they sound great and the higher end models i am assured sound even better :D, and these wont break the bank either !! leaving the misses happy

if your goal is to have movie theater sound and you dont have a sub or center(a good one) in your plans, why are you worried about power to the speakers:confused:

jbl, and the center and sub are more important than the rear speakers, im trying to steer you towards a logical progression:rolleyes: The av123 towers are , imo, one of the best speakers on the market for the money, the elt package I linked ,would be perfered by most over the speakers that you have mentioned. The end result is speakers are subjective, subs a judged different, and if your center is lacking, so is your system;)

the mfw will eat that sub up;) Design, crossover, amp, driver all contribute to performance. Its better than m 1250w 10" sub for sheer HT performance, varibles excluded
