I agree with the limitations, of which actually having a space that you want to fill with the same SPL as the home theater is probably the biggest. But when we are analyzing rotary subs, drivers in excess of $500 ea, and subwoofers in excess of $3k it is something that should be considered. If...

    What interests you?

To be honest, after browsing most of this thread, I am highly suprised that infinite baffle was not mentioned. Buy a bunch of SI 18s and you will get the effect you are looking for at the expense of an attic, crawl space, or extra room. Definitely a different approach but should give you...

    Cheap Stereo Receiver Question

I got a couple questions first. 1. How big of a room? 2. Sensitivity and expected listening levels? 3. What kind of connections are needed? To be honest, I have had very good luck with the cheapo Lepai amplifiers for that kind of stuff. Not a ton of watts, but a lot of speakers in a small...

    Sub excursion vs ESL panel

The issue I have with this comparison is it is set up to fail. Any open baffle setup for lower frequencies needs to have 2-4x the normal amount of woofer area due to the issues explained in here. Since you will not have porting or sealed cabinets helping to get down low, you have to do almost...

Pioneer MCACC w/Wireless sur. gets the speaker distance wrong...how to proceed?

You all beat me to it. Leave it as-is. It is counting the latency in the distance. This will only effect when the sound signal is sent, and will not effect loudness or EQ. At least this is my understanding.

Two awesome games released this week

Dishonored - First Person Stealth/Action Game "It’s a brave and interesting statement to make about responsibility and the nature of choice, and if you don’t mind being mildly rebuked for having uncomplicated fun, you don’t need to engage with it at all. For the rest of us, it adds another...

    $2,000 Recommended Two-Channel Stereo System

Honestly, if there is no talk about standard specs when considering an open baffle, it definitely raises a red flag to me. I love a well done open baffle or omnidirectional design, however they require a proper crossover and a sealed cabinet for low end or powerful open baffle subs to get lower...

    Asassins Creed III

These games are easy to play, but I am in it for the story. You want challenging and great gameplay (but incoherent story), pick up Dark Souls. Revelations and Brotherhood did not get bad reviews by any means, just not nearly as revolutionary as the last few games. Unless, you take the...

    Pioneer Andrew Jones SP-PK52FS review

Those look solid. I really want to see the guts though, the inside of the cabinet and the crossover. To be honest, that looks like the system I could recommend and more than enough for the standard listener.

Oop, thank you. I also posted it here since it is technically video games only. This side of the forum is a bit dead. Some goodies I would recommend on this promotion: Dishonored Halo 4 Splinter Cell Blacklist Hitman: Absolution Far Cry 3 Assassin's Creed 3

Will there be chuffing with a 4" port?

Just a side note, but make sure the port is flared to reduce the chance of chuffing as well. You probably already got that, but always good to throw that out there.

What is a good sub for my situation?

Of course. If you got the tools, a sub box is one of the easiest to put together. You control the quality of cabinet construction, the type of design you are shooting for, and the look of it. Also, you can generally get a great amount of performance for much cheaper cost. The cons are...

Last call for advice - articulate music dual subs

Just a heads up on the GR Research driver, I honestly feel that the most important difference between the two is the ability to use a much higher crossover point. Danny (who I respect, seeing as all my speakers are designed by him) definitely is not a fan of metal based cones. That is the...

Buying a used eD subwoofer, mistake?

I have found an A7S-450 subwoofer for sale for an extremely low price, and was wondering with the issues with eD if this would be a bad idea. Reading a few reviews, I am seeing this is a great performer. But if anything fails, I am looking at DIY fixes at this point. What do you guys...
