    cable comparison

Will cables from two different manufacturers with identical test specs sound the same?

    Active v. Passive Monitoring

1.Mastering monitors, maybe 2.Probably, PMC/Bryston is a nice combo. 3.Yes 4.I think manufacturers like to keep a distinction between home and studio. That may change with all of the home studios that are everywhere now. Nice topic, I think powered speakers are a great idea for H/T...

    Breaking in new speakers

There are a lot of speakers out there that should only have one set of posts on them, but that does not mean that bi-amping does not work.

    Breaking in new speakers

The psb speakers won't take long to break in. Just listen to lots of music/movies and enjoy them. The 5t have 4 posts on the back, so after a while give biamping a try. I'm not sure how it works with receivers, I've only done it with power amps, but I bet it will sound pretty darn good.

    Christina Aguilera & Alicia Keys

Although not the most soulful, Christina can sing. An engineer that I work with did a session with her, and what took her 10 minutes took an entire day for Brittney Spears (who unfortunately represents typical talent level these days). Since we're talking about women, my two favorite...

    Performance versus durability

I would go for the less durable (more frequent change), cleaning contacts is a good thing. Not to mention the better resolution between changes.

arcam avr 300 V.S. nad, yamaha, denon, rotel etc(the truth of the industry)

It's kind of like a poem. Anyway, the Arcam/Vandersteen combo is a really good one. A nice step up from the usual stuff that we see here.

    Analysis Plus

How are the DH Labs? They look pretty good, and they're not ridiculous prices. I've found that a lot of the entry level esoteric models are as good as the mega buck ones. Analysis Plus is kind of interesting because before they made cables, they were asked by a major cable manufacterer to...

    Stereophile's AudioQuest cable review

I was wondering if others here noticed the article. I thought it was funny how he removed the batteries and they sat in his desk drawer for most of the review. Quite a long response from the manufacturer.

Speakers; When is good enough, enough

I'm noticing that we're actually on the same page. When I mentioneed why more people aren't looking at speaker step response specs, it's the same as your saying, why aren't the high end pre/amplifier guys making more tech progress (making more affordable seperates). What I'm getting at with...

Speakers; When is good enough, enough

I don't think any of the companies listed above are snobs, nor are any of them part of any kind of conspiracy. Back to the thread. Speaker design is not just about materials. This site is based a lot on measurements, but why doesn't anyone mention step response when discussing speaker specs?

    Subwoofer suggestions

I hear that the sub kits from Parts Express are pretty good, and a very cheap price. http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&DID=7&WebPage_ID=242#kits If anyone has any experience let us know. n

    B & W or DYNAUDIO PLEASE HELP

If I may add.. tgrisham summed up the comparison very well. I sort of categorize speakers in 3 ways: 1 they draw you into the music (dynaudio), 2 they put the music in front of you (b&w) with great detail, 3 something in-between (most designs). Now, I don't think this approach will work for...

    Analysis Plus

I just hooked up a pair of Analysis Plus Oval 12 Speaker Cables. Although I've heard a lot of systems over the years I never tried messing with cables. Most of the audio people I know are musicians and recording engineers and don't believe in the cable thing. I really wasn't looking for new...

    Floor speakers on a budget

Consider the size of your apartment and placement (will they be away from walls...). I have a pair of 4ts (which I'm soon replacing) because there is too much bass. I've heard enough higher end models to know that it is no fault of psb's design (although I am now looking for more refined...

Worst Period In Rock/Pop Music History???

ok, the music industry is filled with idiots, so we're not easily exposed to many of those pretty great artists mentioned by jamiel. But, I still think there is a musical side to the art of writing and playing music that is generally getting lost. It's up to some of these younger musicians to...
