    Proposed new system--need advice

I have the M60's & am very pleased with them. I'm considering getting a pr of M22's to compliment them. The DLP is a sweet viewing unit.I'd be interested to know what the negatives are with it. I'm going to be in the market for a TV upgrade this year & am hoping that Mitsubishi & Panasonic get...

    Sub questions

Thanks av_phile. With the receivers' xover locked @ 90Hz & the subs' low end @ 75Hz there isn't much room to maneuver. I did, however, change the subconnection to "bypass xover",set the LFE to "both",& move the sub further into the room(away from the rear wall but still near the left main) & did...

    Cable Vs. Satellite

I've had DTV for a few years now & won't go back to cable. The cable is always the 1st thing to go out in a storm & the last thing to get restored. I live a little north of Seattle so the only issue with getting a dish is the line of sight. I've only lost the signal a couple of times during...

    Demo CD/SACD/DVD-A

I'd really like to see "Crime of the Century" & "Even in the Quietest Moments" be produced in one of these formats. I'll bet "Wish you were Here" would be be stellar also.

    Sub questions

I've got a Boston PV500 sub that I've had for about a year. It's a 10" (100w I believe) & it certainly wasn't high end($325). Quite frankly,I'm disappointed with it,but I'm not sure if it's all the units' fault or a combo of my receiver(Yammy 3300) not having bass management + my expectations...

    Proposed new system

With the Pioneer (150wpc?) you should be able to drive a fair amount of speakers on the market, so don't lock yourself in on the JBL's if you have any doubts about them. Remember that, ultimately, the speakers are what is giving you your sound so don't rush that decision as there is lots to...

    Proposed new system

Nice choice of receivers, great choice on the TV. Haven't heard the JBL's but they seem to be popular. Hoping to get a 65" Diamond myself some day.

    Need Advice....Please

OK. I've never tried it but I was in the market for a CD player/burner & only had 2 choices where I was at. One was $300,the other $700. I was told that the Denon player($700) was much more adept at converting analog to digital because the other only had a 10-12 bit processor or something to...

    Need Advice....Please

Mudcat is right, you could do it yourself. I've heard, however, that getting a CD burner that will convert analog (records) to digital (cd's) & do it good will run $700-$1000. They may be cheaper now but just be advised that it's not the same as burning cd's to cd's.

Paradigm Studio 100 Vers 3 Review

Moz Sorry to hear about the damage. You'd think with something that heavy & valuable they'd pack it it in a crate. I already know you got great speakers but I'm curious about the difference in sound between the Yammy & the Yammy + the amp. Could you live w/o it? Or does the amp breath a new...

    Need Advice....Please

78's are old records that play at 78 rpm's. They are somewhere between the size of a standard LP (33 rpm's) & a 45 (45 rpm's, most single hits came out on 45's). Save them all, some could be very valuable. Not sure but I think they quit making 78's in the 1950's.

    Axiom M60 review

I'm quite aware of what sibilance is. I will retract my statement about "Jar of Flies". Having listened to about 40-50 CD's in the last few days I confused it with something else. It is not a good recording. Putting it simply, I find many recordings to be revealing, some for the better, some for...

Dude, just make sure nobodys' walkin by as you chuck the Bostons out the window. Yes, it will. I've never heard Von Schw. speakers myself, but hear lots of good things about them. With the other equipment you have you should be able to drive any speaker you want. Shop around & have fun.

Super compressed? Sibilant? Are you talking MP3 type recordings? If so,NO, I don't prefer that at all. Who would? All I was trying to do was relate the fact that I'm hearing more of the soundtrack than before. I don't give a S#[t what method was used in mastering,it either sounds good or it...

    Axiom M60 review

Thanks jzac. They seemed to break in pretty quick actually. I'd highly recommend that anyone thinking of spending $1000-$2000 on a pr of mass market speakers demo these 1st if at all possible. I did hear the Paradigm studio 60's & fell in love with them immediately, but they were simply over my...

What I'm refering to is soundstage, instrument definition, clarity, etc. Volume doesn't change what ain't there. Perhaps the original mixing is the culprit. When I close my eyes & listen I can almost sense where the musicians are on some tracks (Laura Branigan,Alice in Chains "Jar of flies" are...

Having had these for a week now,I thought I would share my thoughts on these. Packing was as advertised, not ridiculous, but double-boxed with sufficient protection.Arrived in 3 days as promised(kudos to the Fedex guy for coming back after reading my note on door).I got the Boston Cherry finish &...

Validity of rating/testing receiver at 1kHZ, all channels driven

Measuring @ 1Khz is something that goes back a ways. Bell labs. It was determined that the human voice,on average, is generally in that range of frequency. Even today, when balancing voice circuits, we test @ 404Hz,1004Hz, & 2804 Hz striving for a balance of -4 to -8 dbrnc at each end. I think...
