    Good neutral cd's

Thanks for all the feedback. When I went to demo some Paradigm's I made the mistake of not bringing some of my favorite CD's with me & had to listen to what the salesman put on. He played something I'd never heard before & I'm sure he picked it because he knew it would sound best.Having upgraded...

Good for you.The 650 probably wouldn't do the Axioms justice anyway.

Any Wise Advice for a "Good Value" System?

You're gonna have a rough go of it @ $1000. Try to find a lower powered receiver with good features & pre-outs(Yamaha 1400 comes to mind). It will be less expensive & later you can add an amp to it. Are you looking for a surround system now? Or just a good pair of speakers that you can add to later?

    Impedence switch on Yammie 2400

I semi-concur with AVphile.I have Axiom mt60's driven by a Yammy 3300 &,while I have found the combo to be pleasing, think it's the minimum power I would want driving these. The 3300 is only rated 10wpc higher than the 2400 but has a heftier power supply. Unfortunately,as far as I know, the next...

Tell us a little about you

I'm 42. Live in Marysville,WA & am separated from my 2nd wife(also a long story). I work for the local telephone Co. (Can you hear me now?) installing switching & fiber optic mux equipment. As a former Navy brat, I was born in Conn.,have lived in NY,PA,VA,Spain,& here for the last 25 or so...

    Yamaha RX-V650 vs HTR-5760

I believe the power (in reference to THD) is rated differently in these lines as well. The HTR line is rated @ 1KHz whereas the RX-V is rated across the full spectrum. Check me if I'm wrong as I'm quoting this from memory.

Newman was great in Cool Hand Luke. Which reminds me he was also great in "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid"(Who are those guys?). Loved Paxton as Hicks.

    Measuring driver size

Just curious how speaker manufacturers arrive at the stated size of the drivers in their speakers. I've measured a number of drivers in different speakers & none are the stated size. Even measuring across the entire face plate most are smaller than advertised. Anybody know why?

    Hearing and Movies

I am not familiar with your Sony but I would try turning up only the center & backing off the others. Your not alone in this dilema as my ex has the same problem &,on certain movies or shows,so do I. Unfortunately, this only works for DVD's or programs broadcast in 5.1. Anything in straight...

Speakers; When is good enough, enough

I guess that would depend on what one would consider "better". If I was in-studio while, say,Phil Collins was recording tracks & therefore knew what it was SUPPOSED to sound like I would have a benchmark in which to compare a speakers' reproduction of that music. So I see your point. What sounds...

    Qualities of an Exceptional Amp

Dan, Would just adding more capacitance in the amp remedy the charge vs. discharge rate, or would the size of the transfrmr have to be increased proportionately? Also, have you ever checked out odysseyaudio.com? I thinking of getting a stratos in the future but am leery of a breakin time...

    Qualities of an Exceptional Amp

Speaking of Klipsch, did they ever make a speaker called a "Cornwall"? I remember going to a dudes place once about 25 years ago & he had four of these. They were about the size of a washing machine. He about busted my ears by cranking them with the 1st minute of Loverboys' "Turn me loose". I...

Speakers; When is good enough, enough

That's a good question. I used to think I knew something about hifi until I found this forum. I remember when Speakerlab 7's were the s##t. My ex & I had a pr of Klipsch Fortes & I thought they were fabulous. Considering they were in a big room with 20 ft ceilings & glass everywhere, driven only...

opinions on axiom M60 vs polk audio Lsi 15 or rti 10

The m60's are an excellent speaker. I read the same reviews about them sounding bright & I don't find that to be the case at all. I have a Yamaha 3300 6.1 receiver(130wpc). I've also heard that Yamaha receivers tend to run on the bright side so I was very skeptical about pairing it with the...

If you're in the Seattle area you're more than welcome to audition the m60's. I've had mine for about 3 weeks & am very happy with them. I currently am doing an A/B test with some Sonus Faber Concertino Homes' & can tell you that,so far,I have no intention of returning the Axioms. I have heard...

    Good neutral cd's

I'd like some suggestions of what you would consider good sounding,neutral-toned CD's. I have quite a mix of classic rock from 60's to present day stuff & while a lot of it sounds good, some of it sounds sibilant. Putting it simply,I'm trying to gauge if what I'm hearing is considered...
