    power consumption

I often amaze myself debating with someone who is too blind to make any sensible opinion. And while I may have the snob obsession, at least my obsession is not with faulty, deceitful and inferior mass market products.

    Anybody here into modding?

Glad to know there are members here who are modifying their gears so they can sound right to them. Now that's what really makes this hobby fun and exciting, among other things. I am sure there is so much unpredictable satisfaction from such efforts. I probably would too if I had the time...

    The “Sound” of receivers…

No doubt about that. It's when the amps start to crave for more power that is just not there that they start to sound entirely different from one that has all the power reserves at its arsenal. In short, it's when they start to clip that you can detect differences. But having said that...

    Shopping for a Subwoofer...

Thanks a lot for enjoying my post. I just have a few questions for a young studious mind like yours, if you don't mind. Hopeflly they can refresh my old and tired mind. :D What and whose standards are you refering to? When they design a product based on specfications that conform to a...

    power consumption

In many ways, your short assessments of those brands attest to the subjective and personal nature of this hobby. You won't get any flame from me as I find them entirely valid and insightful as a personal opinion based on experience. That's what makes this hobby unpredictably delightful and...

    power consumption

You never really can understand, can you. I couldn't care less what brand it is and how much orgasm you get listening out of any of them. Nobody questions a personal subjective assessment. I don't even retort on your claims and those of others that a ROTEL sounds garbage. You're within your...

LOL :p You better do some research and find out exactly what CONSERVATIVE means. Rating ALL the channels in a multichannel gear IS conservative and rating a multichannel receiver or amp with only one or two channels is over-hyped and, thus, totally deceitful to unwary consumers who would...

    Subwoofer Cables

Tsk. tsk. You're one voice crying in the wilderness, my friend. You won't get much sympathy in this forum where OPINIONS contrary to what most moderators and members have are dealt with severely. :D But I personally welcome your OPINION. It's an honest OPINION based on your personal...

    DVD Multidisc player

Do make it a point to audition that Rotel 1072. If it's any better than an old 1070 I heard last year compared to most Yamaha. Marantz and HK flagship CD players, then it's worth the wait. Offhand I could think of an ARCAM CD player also with HDCD ability (can't remember the model), though I...

    Subwoofer TECHNICAL SPEC questions

Is the sub more for movies or for music? For mostly music, I'd personally get a sealed-sub enclosure type. Not the most efficient, but they often provide the deepest, flattest, most controlled and most musical low frequencies. Admittedly, they can be picky and difficult to place in a room...

    Very confused about speakers!!!!

I am not so sure that those speakers you mentioned will have a better impression over what you have. Often, room accoustics and speaker placement can make or break a speaker's perceived quality at the listening position. Perhaps you may want to do some room tweaking. Admittedly, there are...

    Shopping for a Subwoofer...

I would suggest that you try and visit a store that can demo a REL Strata or any REL subwoofer. I know it's way above your $1,000 budget. But I would still give the brand and similar makes a listen if only to convince yourself that there's really nothing out there worth your salt above your...

    how to get best soundcard?

Well, it seems you just want good solid sound amplification for your PC soundcard to some outdoor event that needs some musical background, right? I also use an Audigy 2 soundcard to make my PC act like a CD jukebox for just about 300 CDs (limited by the hard disk capacity). And I can make a...

    power consumption

The HK AVR-630 is rated CONSERVATIVELY as compared with the other brands. That's why it can have more electrical power input for its conservatively rated output power, relative to the others. You can always draw that same observation comparing many over-hyped brands with more conservatively...

    power consumption

It probably will never happen. But that's entirely beside the point. The power as it is PUBLISHED in a BROCHURE to attract customers initially should correspond to the REAL power it can deliver as promised by that brochure. I think you can do that without any problem with CONSERVATIVE power...

    power consumption

With all things equal, having a larger, heftier power supply can be indicative of the power reserves available to the amplifier circuit. It is often not possible to defeat the laws of physics to do so. But having said that, the use of Torroids can effectively bring the wieght down by abut 25%...

    DVD Multidisc player

CD players with HDCD capability like all ROTEL are said to have superior digital filtering abilities that can make even non-HDCD materials sound marginally better. Do make a google research on HDCD to find out what they say about it.

Anyone here use a Windows Media Center PC in their HT?

There are any number of DVD-rippers out there downloadable as freeware or shareware from the net. They certainly can make mincemeats of all those silly macrovision and region codings that the labels have. The video and audio quality seems the same to me. Though I hardly ever have any interest...

Anyone here use a Windows Media Center PC in their HT?

The Creative Audigy LS or PRO sound cards are excellent for the job. High S/N ratio. You may want to check them out in their website or some reviews. I think the PRO has DTS decoding abilities. Just not sure.
