Speakers; When is good enough, enough

Do you make the listening room accoustically correct independent of the speaker of your choice? If so, what would be the attributes of a good enough speaker after you've made the 50% correction on the room?

    The “Sound” of receivers…

Probably because I don't feel persecuted. :p And I'm not in the mood for zingers.

Yamaha RX-V1400 and 4 ohm Speakers?

Any speakers will do, just make sure they match the impedance of your Yammie. You can try speakers from the same brand. I'm sure they'd be a good match. Or go Wharfedale, Tannoy or Polk Audio. Just some thoughts, the yammie may work better in the HT area. Your separates would be better for...

Yamaha RX-V1400 and 4 ohm Speakers?

Nope, not on your life. The snob appeal is further enhanced.

    power consumption

It's so obvious that you prefer to hide behind such remarks and not face up to the issue that power measurements do matter for some people and that manufacturers can hold your *** by their overhyped claims. Hello, knock knock, I have to rain on your parade that you and your kind do not...

    power consumption

When the manufacturer says 2-channels driven, that is NOT implied. That is EXPLICITLY stated. That's just fine with stereo, as all reputable makers clearly state ALL or BOTH channels driven to arrive at a CONSERVATIVE measurement of their power ratings. And when another stereo box is entirely...

    The “Sound” of receivers…

I am not entirely convince I need to know. DBTs are purely statistical and its relevance in a subjective and personal hobby has little value on the beliefs and preferences of hobbyists. I think my ideas on this are well expounded on another thread. Ask your colleague Rob.

Musicla Fidelity A3.2 CD player & Integrated amp?

Musical Fidelity is one of those brands of separate amps and players I have the highest respect for. Their amps do what their published specs promise, no marketing overruns. Their heft and built leaving nothing to be desired. I just am a bit uncomfortable with some of their player;s facade...

    Moved from modding thread

Funny that you should suggest I compare modified gears with stock gears. tell that to those who modify in that forum. I don't anymore, I just buy what I BELIEVE is the best gear for me. And if you've understood my posts, you'd notice that I consider adhering to ABX tests as just another...

Respect???? So you now talk about respect, where's your respect when you drove people like O'Shag from this forum when all he was saying was an honest assessment of his cables? Where's you respect when you and your ilk dish insults on posters like Redbone on an honest opnion...

    Picking an amp. Help!

Congrats on your your toys. Nothing beats separates. It's been a looong while since I handled balanced interconnects. I'm not even sure if I need one. These are often used in professional studio gears and some high end products. It may be an industry standard, hence most of their gears...

Yamaha RX-V1400 and 4 ohm Speakers?

Ha ha, you've just further indicted the brand. So they just want to pass U/L requirements at the expense of conservative measurements to pass on to unwary customers. That's nice. Thanks.

Why should it? I hardly have any regard for it. But I'll tell you why, read along, indulge me. You tell me. :) In fact I am delighted that the issue of modifying gears should come from you. From someone who delights in ABX testing, that was a pleasant and welcome surprise. The issue...

Yamaha RX-V1400 and 4 ohm Speakers?

LOL Well, mcwilson, let your experience do the talking. I don't profess to be a yammie expert and will never be, thank goodness, since I have no intentions whatsover of owning inferior products to be an expert on them. Contact from dissatisfied colleagues will do. Afterall, I don't have to go...

    Recorded CD sound quality

It is not so much they don't care about quality. But majority of those in the hobby are quite happy and content with the quality of MP3s or other compressed formats downloaded from the net. Mobility and transportability are often a higher priority for them. I've heard them and they do...

    Anybody here into modding?

LOL, I wonder where you got the idea that I'm trolling. Should be very obvious the point of what I said. Modding is among the things that make this hobby what it is. But if I read some other threads, it really flies in the face of DBTs, doesn't it?

Yamaha RX-V1400 and 4 ohm Speakers?

Are your new Polk LSi 8 ohmers? If so, then they should work with your yammies. And if you want to go the high end route, receivers from mass market products are simply not the way to go.

Yamaha RX-V1400 and 4 ohm Speakers?

Should be obvious from your experience that those "experts" on Yammies are not as what they seem to be. Most entry and mid receivers have problems driving 4 ohm loads. Congrats on your separates purchase.

    power consumption

Fine, then they should just advertise their multi channel gears as a "2-channel receiver with X other channels that need not be as powerful." And it is never moot. You apparently haven't played a 5.1 SACD or a DVD-A with equal power demands from each channel. So now the onus is on the...
