    Magnepan Sound

Did you hang them on the wall? I always understood this model was designed to be close to a wall to sound their best. All of the floorstanders have to be far from the back wall - you might want to try the MMGs. I've only heard the 1.6 and a larger model above the 1.6 - and they were pretty...

    Pro-amps vs HT amps?

There are some great pro amps out there, one of my favorites being McIntosh. Yup. I was in The Hit Factory (big NY studio at the time) and I peered around the SSL board and saw big blue meters. They were driving the big Urei-s without breaking a sweat. I guess that makes them pro amps...

    Ohm Speakers

Hey Cawdor - Wow, in '75 I was listening to my dad's Fisher tube integrated, and tube tuner with Fisher speakers and turntable. That was a great system, and I wish I still had it. It would probably happily stand up to many of today's newer systems... Before the Ohms, I had a pair of...

    Ohm Speakers

Hi Cawdor - I've had a pair of MicroWalsh Talls for about 2.5 years now. Have you read these reviews? http://www.sixmoons.com/audioreviews/walsh/micro.html http://www.sixmoons.com/audioreviews/ohm/ohm.html The second review is not about the Micros, but still sheds some light on Ohm...

    Reliability of Active Studio Monitors

At work we use active monitors all day, every day, with no problems - Dynaudios, KRKs, Events... They don't all sound great, but they're all built well.

    Need MIDRANGE. Suggestions Please.

Absolutely, the best affordable speaker with great mids are the Ohm Walsh Series. No crossover in the mid-frequency range, the tweeter kicks in around 8/10K. Incredible, open and natural mids. If you want to go the more typical front baffle design, I would also suggest Dynaudio.

    Pro vs Consumer speaker reviews?

These are some of the best sounding pro monitors that I've heard in a great while: http://www.focalprofessional.com/en/products/solo6Be.html

    Quality & Price?

Ohm Walshes - I have the MicroWalsh Talls. For only a grand: A handmade speaker, real veneer finish. Excellent customer support (you can speak to the designer on the phone - you can upgrade for a small cost - when upgrades become available, and they'll repair any Ohms ever made). They're...

    In-Wall wiring

Hey everyone - I'm designing an in-wall system for my components, and I was wondering what to look out for when wiring in the walls. I'm not going to run power cables, just interconnects and speaker cable. Thanks for any info!

    Old Mcintosh Vs New?

I have a solid state Mac amp that sounds great - but that's where my experience ends. Maybe you should try over at audiokarma.org under the McIntosh threads for advice.

Gallo round speakers vs Orb speakers which are best?

Never did direct comparison I have the Orb Classic One setup in my bedroom system. I think they are a much better deal than Gallos. If you're getting into the Gallo price range, than I'd just suggest getting regular monitors and a sub. For a little over $500- the Classic One is great for a...

Best sounding speakers you have ever listen to..

I would really like to hear a pair of Ohm F's someday. I have newer Ohms, two-ways, but I'm curious about the original. Sheep, go out and listen to as many different types of speakers as you can - both expensive and not. Although the Energys are pretty good (I also hate it when designers bump...

    Hosting infamous amp test

I'll go back to my Arcam amps. After I sold that gear, I found out much later, that the guys over at Arcam purposely voiced the Alpha range of amps to "mellow" the sound of CDs. No gear out there is neutral, all designers design their gear to what sounds good to their ears, and as everyone...

    Soundstage/Detail from Amp or Pre-Amp?

Hey Peng - I still like Arcam! They have some nice amps and CD players right now. However, they are like many of the other companies out there that don't keep models consistantly in the line up for very long - improvements are great, but I don't want my gear goin' out of style in a year...

    Soundstage/Detail from Amp or Pre-Amp?

During the daytime, I have tried the system at louder levels for fun. I found the Mac amp kept asking to play louder. It is only 15 Watts a side more than the latest Arcam I had, but for some reason, at loud levels the sound didn't compress like on the Arcams. Also, at the louder level is...

    Soundstage/Detail from Amp or Pre-Amp?

Hey mulester - The levels when I first turned the amp on were normal - I have thin walls - whenever I'm in stereo stores, I'm always turning down "the salesman levels" for a more realistic listen. I had NO idea how this amp was going to sound - I just kept an open mind.

    Soundstage/Detail from Amp or Pre-Amp?

I have fairly new pair of Ohm Walsh series floorsatanders and a pair of Sequerra Met 7.7 monitors. Hopefully they'll be good enough for the experiment.
