Bi-wired the fronts

Matt; IF you are already using decent 12AWG cable, don't waste your time biwiring, especially for the rear speakers. You will throw unnecessary money away on cable, make your setup more cluttered, double the capacitance load on the amp, and achieve no real audible benefit. Biwiring is one...

From the "now I've heard it all" department

Sounds like he needs more fiber in his diet :) I have a theory that most audiophiles diets are out of balance which is why they are always trying to lower the bloatiness in their systems. Perhaps they eat too much chocolate since they love chocolatey midrange :) Ok I will stop now.

Denon DVD-5910 Universal Player Features Comparison

A solid transport is certainly an important attribute of a CD/DVD player. However, weight alone doesn't necessarily guarantee a great one. When I get my DVD-5910 for review I will go over all of this as I intend to do a very thorough review of this product and not just focus on video nitpicks...

    ISF calibration/Hobbyist Shoot-out

Not sure who is hyping ISF, but I agree, its not for everyone. And yes, I also agree its needed more for CRT displays than digital, however you overlook front projector and the fact few consumers really can set them up correctly. It pays to higher a pro at that point. Usually a good installer...

    Speaker Break-in?

Actually speakers do break in to some extent. the small thiel parameters change over time (usually a few hours is all it takes). As this happens the woofer suspension loosens up a bit, and it will have lower extension. Mids break in even quicker and tweeters require even less time if any...

    ISF calibration/Hobbyist Shoot-out

That is why we recommend ISF calibration or having a pro calibrate the display. So the picture is more accurate as established standards in video. Audio cables are different, since there are no standards, only bogus claims that are easily disproven. I have done the test. I calibrated my...

    ISF calibration/Hobbyist Shoot-out

Having witnessed a few of my staff going through the training and seeing the end results on my own display, I can personally vouch for the difference! I would venture to say most displays you can get about 80-85% via the user controls and Avia disc if you have time and patience. Knowing what...

Type of products you would like more reviews of ?

Doing controlled and accurate DBT testing is both time consuming and very involving. We have only seen them truly done correctly by the likes of Harman and the NRC. So far no credible source to our knowledge has been able to depict sonic differences in controlled DBT of cables. In the...

    USA Today Report on MonsterCable

Again they missed the point. The very fact that her testing methodology was severely flawed, lead her to an erroneous conclusions that gave the reader the impression that the Monster cable “sounded” better and it was basically the same price (another misleading representation) as the generic...

Understanding In-wall Speaker, Video and Audio Cable Ratings

We're often asked questions about the suitability of particular cables or speaker wires for in-wall installation, and it's not surprising; with surround speakers being wired all around home theater rooms, ceiling-mounted projectors being...

Audioholics is Forbes Favorite Best of the Web

Sjdpt; Sure we can always use more reviewers, send your resume and credentials to me at gds@audioholics.com. We are looking to cover alot more products this year. With speakers, it can be difficult since many manufacturers opt for us to beta test and NOT publish reviews of their products.

    USA Today Report on MonsterCable

Here is my original email to the USA Today report following our phone call interview. It was a pleasure speaking with you today regarding cables. We are appreciative of this interview opportunity and allowing us to get a very useful message out to an unwary public being constantly bombarded...

    USA Today Report on MonsterCable

BMX we are not debating whether or not Monster products are good. We are however infuriated by the misquoting and the poor testing methodology in this article. Notice they didn't even mention the wire gauge used. How do we know they didn't simply pick up some 24AWG telephone cable from home...

    USA Today Report on MonsterCable

Being misquoted really upsets us, but we thought you would find this delightfully shallow report (endorsement?) on Monster Cable products interesting. The main article is located here. While the main article has some nice statements in it such as the fact that "Nobody has ever been able...

Type of products you would like more reviews of ?

My advice to anyone wanting us to review Pioneer receivers is to write or call them directly and request it. Its difficult finding a good contact with them. Also, regarding affordable amps, I will soon be publishing a review of a couple of 7CH $2k amps. Hope that helps out.

    The new GLOB cables

When I presented these cables at the Monster Booth during the CES show, I told the Monster people if they tried to copy this cable design and/or terminology, I would sue them  However, I was willing to sell them the rights for a price

    Exclusive Denon AVR-3805 First Look!

Bad idea. Do not mix and match amps for biamping purposes unless they have the same overall gain structure otherwise you won't properly match levels between the mid/tweets and woofers. Unless you can vary the gain of your amp to match the Denon amp you will likely have a mismatch. IF...

    RBH 661-SE power question

I would steer clear of most pro amps. They are meant for sound reinforcement and usually give little regards to distortion and noise. Quaility amplifier power can be had cheaply and unless you are blasting music into a large room at full range, your current amps should be sufficient. The 200...
