Speaker Break In: Fact or Fiction?

There has been a lot of talk lately about Speaker Break In among our forum users. Since there seems to be much confusion and misinformation about this topic we asked Mark Sanfilipo (our resident Loudspeaker Expert) to author an article on this topic and share his experiences and research...

Bics or Ascend Acoustics for my low budget HT?

We don't have the resources to dedicate analytical measurements to budget product so don't expect anything more than perhaps a nearfield measurement of the speakers. We plan on facing off a few entry level models at their retail price, NOT what you can buy them for at some etailer. In...

    Speaker Cables for "Bright" Systems?

We measured Cardas cables in Speaker Cable Face Off II I believe. They were merely average in performance and a tad pricey IMO. Thats an interesting comment about decent considering Yamaha receivers typically have superior bass management, noise floor and processing to the alternative ones...

    Bi-wiring a Yamaha Z9 & Energy Veritas V2.3i

At the very most, and only in the bass drivers. We will be writing an article on this topic shortly. This myth has been living for too long. Its time to put some prespective on it.

    Is Audioholics Brainwashing Us?

Mike; Regarding writing an article on "how to read reviews". I suggest reading this one as a start which was written by the late Anthony Federici: Reviewing Home Theater Reviews

Bics or Ascend Acoustics for my low budget HT?

The pair Ray has in for review are the DV-62's. As for the Aerogel mid, the last Aerogel mid I heard was on the Pinnacle Aerogel towers. The best attribute of that speaker was the midrange which incidentally was a 5 1/4" Audax Aerogel. The Ascends seem to use a very similar driver, most...

    Audio analyzers. Which one?

I know, the Sencore stuff is way over priced. You may wish to look into this program assuming you have a laptop with a good soundcard. We are going to evaluate this tool soon because it looks so promising and is dirt cheap! http://www.purebits.com/

Bics or Ascend Acoustics for my low budget HT?

The Ascends look nice. I am a fan of Aerogel midranges. We will have to get in a pair for review. Either way both the Ascend and Axioms are far better choices than the Bics. We have a pair in for review now and so far not impressed at all by build quality or parts usage.

Bics or Ascend Acoustics for my low budget HT?

Buger; In the price range you are looking at you should strongly consider Axiom Audio products, particularly their M3ti or M22ti speakers. They have significantly better build quality and accuracy than the BIC's. I think the Axiom/Ascend are more comparible choices to consider. Check out...

Official Denon AVR-5805 Review Support Thread

Looks like this firmware has some operational issues on my unit. In addition, the Audyssey results are less than flattering. I am hopeful Denon can get me new firmware in the next couple of weeks before my big relocation or I won't be able to address this until December timeframe. I will keep...

    Bi-wiring a Yamaha Z9 & Energy Veritas V2.3i

Welcome aboard. Nice gear! Speaker Break in is a bit of a misnomer. Beyond 20hrs or so for the bass drivers there really isn't any other "Breakin" occurring. Tweets especially don't break in. As for biwiring, there is little to no benefit in doing this. I would advice picking a high...

Want to improve your bass…Try this.

That's because Yamaha and Denon have some of the best bass management systems on the market. We have seen this issue on the processors built by East Tech and some of the more esoteric flavors. The bottom line is always check your system bass response with an RTA/FFT measuring device if you...

Want to improve your bass…Try this.

Actually its not a matter of opinion, its a matter of fact as experts such as Dr. Floyd Toole and Thomas Holman (formerly of THX) have proven in their research. If you are localizing the bass when the crossover is set above 60Hz its likely either 1) pressure wave detection, or 2) you have the...

    Hot Separates System Recommendation Tip

Mulester; I noticed some misconceptions in your post and thought I would address them. 1) Damping Factor - this is somewhat of a nebulous spec, especially since most manufacturers don't tell you how they measure (ie loading conditions, frequency, etc). Be careful when trying to compare...

Do the Velodyne sub calibration after Audyssey. It has much more resolution for handling bass than Audyssey does.
