Emotiva XPR-5 Five-Channel Reference Power Amplifier Preview

It's not snobbery, its understanding and using equipment what its meant for. Designing an amp for sound reinforcement is much different than consumer audio. I have listened to and measured many pro amps in the past including those from Crown. They are fine amps for pro audio, they are light...

Emotiva XPR-5 Five-Channel Reference Power Amplifier Preview

I drive 6 channels simultaneously when having party's around my home. at least 4 of the channels have two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel so each module is seeing a 4 ohm load impedance. I am driving 10 pairs of speakers off of 6 channels. The volume depends on how liquored up we are :D My...

I would say these amps mentioned above last at least 15-20+ years, would the Emotiva last this long? Let's see, I have had my Emotiva MPS-1 for over 10 years with no issues. People are forgetting that Jade has manufacturers amps for more brands than Emotiva, some very high end brands I...

Emotiva XPR-5 Five-Channel Reference Power Amplifier Preview

Hmm ugly cosmetics, power ratings only at 1kHz. Many Class D amps have issues powering 4 ohm speakers fullbandwidth. High distortion, Terrible SNR figures which are claimed at full rated power. Where do I sign up? This may be great for portable PA as they are claiming its purpose...

Emotiva XPR-5 Five-Channel Reference Power Amplifier Preview

Very good points but Emo is planning a mono block version of this amp and I am strongly considering using it in the long term to run these new speakers. I wish EMO would come up with analog VU meters for these babies. I'm not a big fan of the blinking LEDs, but I am sure some folks dig em.

It's more about dynamic load delivery than sustained power. You can still get tons of headroom out of an amp like this on a conventional 15 amp circuit.

They surely can when driving a pair of speakers that are both revealing enough and power hungry enough to benefit from higher power. I have a 10CH Denon amp that delivers almost 500wpc in bridged mode that can NOT adequately drive my new reference speakers but the Classe CT-2300 rated at...

Using a multichannel amp to Bi-wire/Bi-amp

You are confusing bi-wiring with bi-amping. Biwiring uses the same amp but uses a pair of cable fed to the speakers top and bottom terminals with the jumpers removed. The amp itself actually sees a very similar load impedance minus some minor changes in cable impedance going from a single to a...

    Bowers & Wilkins DM603 worth $500?

I am very familiar with the old B&W 600 series of speakers. IMO you can do better for the money. EMP E55s for example, or if you want a speaker that is more laid back but has a lot of bass, check out the Fluance XL7Fs. For $400/pair you could also look at the Infinity P363s but they won't...

What it is the best cable option.

I recommend 14/4. It's more flexible than 10AWG and has a redundant pair of wires in case one pair fails for some reason or you can parallel both pairs to yield 11AWG resistance. I ran 10AWG in my entire house and it was a mistake. Very hard to work with. Go 14/4 or 16/4 - 4 conductor cable...

Infinity Primus P363 Floorstanding Loudspeaker Review

The Infinity P363 is a good floorstander for $400/pair but its not even close to the "point of diminishing returns" unless they are put in such a bad room, played with the worse electronics and worse source material that better speakers would not benefit the listening experience. If you've...

    EMP E41-B for $209

Not even close. The E-41B utilize the same cabinets as RBH Signature series product. The Beryllium 4" driver is very costly and EMP is likely offering this sale on what ever stock they have left of. Definitely a rare deal at this price given the caliber of parts.

I don't know of any $500 speakers wired with Kimber TC cable and hand built with premium parts like this. Really I don't see an issue here with how these crossovers are built. These speakers are fully built and assembled locally and its a far costlier process doing it this way then to use...

These were the first production pair built. PCB boards are much less desirable than point to point connections like the ones here. You get more losses via PCB traces. You also cannot wave solder such large components to a PCB board. The Indcutor is literally the size of a transformer you...
