Head to Head Review: Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SE vs Wharfedale Diamond 10.1

The EMP e41 should be on your short list It's literally the exact same thing as a $1,000 RBH bookshelf with a different cabinet and for.....about $700 less. If I had that money to spend on a PC setup, those would be here in a heartbeat to try

Affordable upgrade similar to Polk Monitor70?

I do the latter, but that's just me. I'd rather have really good sound from 20hz-20kHz than great sound from 55/60hz-20kHz. Just me and what I'd want though. Ask yourself if you'd listen to music/movies and MISS anything that's sub bass. If you answer yes, then option 2. If no, then option 1...

    is 2Hz/4Hz worth additional $600/$900???

    No. Wait. 1. Kid/dog/whatever can't poke the cone if it's down-firing.

Help With Possible AVR Issue (Defective?)

On another topic....since I use my PC -> WDTV-Live to listen to music and stream blu-rays (wired connection for this) would it benefit me to upgrade my sound card or get an external DAC before running into the AVR? Or after the AVR.....not sure where DAC's go 'in the chain of things'

Help With Possible AVR Issue (Defective?)

When going into Audyssey and using Manual EQ, you can only apply a boost of UP TO +6dB. Cuts can be applied up to -12dB. I assume that Audyssey will do the same with it's EQ (only apply up to a +6dB boost). So it might need/want more, but it's limits are reached at +6dB

Help With Possible AVR Issue (Defective?)

This is the FRONT LEFT measurement (emp e55ti). Wifey says grocery store and Hobby Lobby run so FR speaker measurement later haha. *Measured with 1/3 octave pink noise (WAV format) with JUST the FRONT LEFT speaker. Measured from 1' away at tweeter height

Help With Possible AVR Issue (Defective?)

Thanks. Once the little girl takes a nap I'll run some pink noise using only one speaker at a time and post the results. And yeah, things are going up on the walls, etc soon. Purchased this house, then her car broke down so we bought her a new car. Then we had the little one. Then my '04 TL...

Help With Possible AVR Issue (Defective?)

Thanks. I don't hear much of an echo at all. Here's the room: Usually pillows on the couch, but that's pretty much it for now. Older pic, but there's still no table or anything to create any more reflections than what you see. I have measured one speaker at a time, but that was back a...

Help With Possible AVR Issue (Defective?)

Thanks for the help! I'm now wondering if it's the tone (pink noise) that might not be at the same SPL per frequency (I'm not sure if that's how pink noise works or what..) or possibly my soundcard on my PC. I know there's a way to test the output of the sound card and I'm looking into how to...

Help With Possible AVR Issue (Defective?)

So I purchased a Denon x1000 to try out. Results from listening and pink noise.....same thing. SPL meter confirmed on pink noise at least. Denon 1712 - Denon X1000 4kHz: 54dB - 54dB 10kHz: 38dB - 39dB So that means that these speakers in my room are almost 20dB down at 10kHz from 2kHz...

Affordable upgrade similar to Polk Monitor70?

There are very few bookshelves that will give any usable output anywhere near that low end that you want. If you want that....you're going to need a sub or a tower. And towers still wont get that low.....not at this price. Not anywhere near this price. Don't think that just because you have a...

Affordable upgrade similar to Polk Monitor70?

A $300-350 pair of bookshelves and a $300 sub ($50 stands).....you're at the same price as what you want to spend on towers. Move the bookshelves to surround duty and upgrade to towers if you like the speakers or just want more dynamic range up front. There are A TON of very solid bookshelves in...

Affordable upgrade similar to Polk Monitor70?

I'd get a small sub. Just keep your volumes reasonable. Look at the EMP e5 and ARX a2 also. ...that Jade 1 bookshelf in the classifieds would be a HUGE upgrade

Help With Possible AVR Issue (Defective?)

Purchased a new SPL meter at Radioshack. It might have just made me more confused lol * Yes, batteries were swapped from the new one, to the old one and back again to make sure readings were not off due to low or bad battery. Readings were the same no matter which battery was used (had 3...

Help With Possible AVR Issue (Defective?)

I've got an issue and I can't figure out what the cause is. I'll try to keep this short and sweet. Here's what I'm working with: EMP e55ti (and e56ci; e5bi's) Denon 1712 (from A4L) When I use my SPL meter, using 1/3 octave pink noise from a Alan Parsons disc or Autosound discs or...

    Setting Phase on Dual PB12NSD

As far as 'distance' in the AVR calibrations, how does one know if the AVR has set it correct or close to correct? I know it's not a physical distance measurement, but an acoustic one. I've always wondered if it would have any effect if Audyssey MultEQ XT was off for my dual sub setup and I...
