I second the 602s. They are great speakers. They are very versatile, and sound good with all types of music. Also, they put out enough bass that you could do without a sub in a moderate-sized room.

$1000 for amplification out of a $2000 budget? That seems pretty excessive to me. Why not just use the Pioneer? I think the speakers (including sub) have a far bigger impact on the sound of the system as a whole. (An amp upgrade can always come later.)

Given that you intend to use a sub, I am not sure why you are specifying floorstanders. You could get better quality bookshelves+stands within your price range, and you wouldn't be paying for the bass twice.

You are right. Their speakers are designed for looks (some of them do look nice), but sound terrible.

It is just too bad that a company that makes good speakers also resorts to such BS to make a few extra bucks. I would think it would hurt their sales by causing people to distrust them in general.

What is surprising about it? They are great speakers.

Even a cheap receiver will not clip if it is played at a reasonable volume. Clipping occurs when it is cranked way up. (The fuses in the CVs may protect the speakers themselves, but one can still fry the receiver this way.)

The same amp drives the A and B terminals (this is why a higher impedance is required when driving two sets of speakers.) You would not gain any watts. Unless you biamp (with two separate power amps), it is better to leave them bridged and just connect one pair of terminals.
