Mcintosh speakers, most overpriced on the market?

The MSRP on those isn't even a downpayment on a truely overpriced loudspeaker. And some people don't like horn tweeters.

For a high end speaker their price is pretty low,too bad all of em ive heard sounded like crap,IMO mcintosh has lost their way in speaker design.

My vote for the "most overpriced speakers" award goes to Wilson. You could buy a nice car for what some of their models cost, and they don't even have flat frequency response.

Yeah, $7000 isn't even in the neighborhood of 150 grand like these from Von Schweikert. That's no knock on V-speakers...I happen to like 'em and I'd guess this particular model sounds pretty darn good. But seriously, $150,000? For speakers? And yeah, I know, those aren't even as high as it goes. I have a hard time believing that as much or more materials/engineering/design goes into those speakers than say an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, which happens to cost ~$30,000 less.

Cory, I love car metaphors when talking about diminishing returns. As we move through a certain price point, the more expensive product turns into toy factor or bragging rights. That being said, if I were rich there would be late 1960's mint condition Ford GT40 in my garage.

Never heard McIntosh speakers, but some of their amps and sources are fantastic.

I don't know man, I recently heard the $40,000 Wilson Maxx and they were crazy good. Overpriced, probably; but most luxury items are. I'd love to hear those $150,000 Von Schweikerts...imagine how much you have to spend on electronics to do those speakers justice? Damn. Actually, there's a guy on this forum with gear in this category. I'm gonna go find his posts...and he seems real cool...if I had **** like that i'd brag about it all day.

Gotta say, I'll take the new Ford GT over the classic. It's a sexier and faster version of the original, IMO. (1-60 in 3.3? what?)

No question the new Ford GT is nice and will drive 500% better on the road than a GT40. The forty part is the height of the car from road to the highest part of the roof. The proportions and design of the classic GT40 somehow just do it for me. The new GT is a very nice car and I would have no problem having it in my garage instead.

Other then their amps and pre amps Mcintosh makes nothing but crap and now days where class D is taking over their amps are nothing but expensive paper weights. My MC501 amps sound 100% the same as a class D receiver.

I have heard the XLS series and can not believe that mac is charging that much for such a basic sound. The only thing that mac does right with their speakers is having a high SPL output and a high power handling ratting. But if someone wants a higher then average SPL output why not run a horn loaded speaker for about 1/10th the price?
If not the most overpriced, they`re a top contender.

genesis has a set of speakers more expensive than the Von Schweikerts at $165,000...safe to say that they are overpriced?

We are not talking about the ultra high end where you have a one off piece where there is $50,000 worth of man hours put into the speaker. We are talking about simple speaker bulids that have a huge profit margine to pay for a NAME.

You must be kidding,i demoed the mc501's at the same time as the mc1201's & i thought they were great amps,if you really think they suck that bad then lets make a deal, they would be sweet for my rear channels.

In my teens back in the mid sixties, before I saw a GT40 up close, I figured the Cobra would be the ideal car to drive to school each day. In hindsight, my 1960 Triumph TR3 was far better for me as I am still alive.
