    Would I miss Yammy's DSP if I bought a Marantz 7500 or 8500?

...But normal DD and DTS both also encompass the entire room in their soundfield (that is what they are for, after all.)

Do CRTs Have A Native Resolution?

Someday, the technology will exist to make a big screen with the same or better PQ. Until then, I am quite happy with my "puny" 34" screen. (especially as it seems huge compared to the 27" 4:3 screen I had been watching before I bought it.)

    listen to JAZZ!

I have a Mingus CD (called "Ah Um") that I love in terms of content. Being an old recording, however, it is not up to par soundwise. Too bad that some of those classic performances could not have been captured by today's recording equipment. The great thing about my Sonny Rollin's CD is that he...

Do CRTs Have A Native Resolution?

That is true, and it is also a real shame. The new technologies allow larger screen sizes, but I have yet to see any that can equal the picture quality of my direct-view tube.

Kansas court rules:Illegal Aliens arent Illegal

I agree with the concept. The problem is the US economy. Between the money being hemhorraged daily into the most pointless war of all time, a housing market built on an illusion of endless credit that could collapse instantly if the foreign bank owners decide to call in their debt, and a huge...

    Comparing Subwoofer Power Rating

Probably because it depends on the amp as well as the speakers. Subs contain both, which is why they can measure it. Does the sub deliver the SPL and extension you want with a level of distortion you can live with? If so, I am not sure why other specs matter anyway.

Kansas court rules:Illegal Aliens arent Illegal

So, if I sneak into a theater and get caught after I am inside, they can't throw me out?:p

Biwire speaker cable. Is it worth it?

Huh? I agree that something which has not been proven or disproven belongs in the realm of faith. Something which has been proven (or disproven), however, is a fact (or non-fact) and therefore not a matter of faith.

What makes one DVD player better/worse than another?

My Sony was pretty cheap (around $80, if I remember right.) It has given me many years of trouble-free operation so far. I have compared the picture/sound of significantly more expensive DVD players to it without being able to detect any difference.

This hobby can make a grown man cry.

I literally can't remember the last time I watched broadcast, cable, satellite, or anything other than DVD. What I do know is that my current HDTV has never had anything but DVDs shown on it (I do watch TV shows, but only on disc), and I have had it for over 6 years. Maybe experiences like...

Biwire speaker cable. Is it worth it?

If I tell you "you can't fly" and you say "I believe that I can.", that is your right. If you actually decide to try it, though, don't whine to me about the consequences. The world works the way that it does. It couldn't care less what we choose to believe or not believe about it.

But I Already HAVE a DVD Player!

Wouldn't you get spoiled, though? I mean, if high-def is really all that, wouldn't it be hard to go back to standard DVD after watching a few?

Bookshelf Speakers - Acustic changes when crossed over

Low-pass only. No outputs. It doesn't bother me, since my stereo speakers are floorstanders. It is something to consider when shopping for small speakers with a sub, however.

    3 Favorite Classical Pieces

That could be part of my experience. The stuff we played was pretty dull (it had to be, most of us weren't very skilled!:o) Hearing classical music butchered by other orchestras not much better than we were probably didn't help, either. I think I also came to resent my teacher's approach...

Bookshelf Speakers - Acustic changes when crossed over

This is often cited as one of the advantages of using a sub. It is only true when the receiver has bass management, however. In a 2.1 system like mine, the speakers get the same full-range signal as they would without a sub.

    3 Favorite Classical Pieces

I played in the orchestra (viola) from 5th grade until I graduated high school. This experience was intended to instill a life-long interest in classical music. Instead, it backfired. I have had no desire to listen to classical music since then (I like it in movie soundtracks, but that is all.)
