    listen to JAZZ!

That's how I listen to all of my music. Music, to me, is a "destination activity" as opposed to being a background for doing other things. (In fact, if I am focusing my attention on something else, I prefer not to have music playing.)

    Vibration and amplifiers

If you have serious vibration passing through your amp, then that same vibration is probably effecting your CD and/or DVD player (assuming it is on the same rack.) This seems like it would cause much bigger issues.

But I Already HAVE a DVD Player!

This is an exact, word-for word duplication of my earlier post (#3). So where are the quotation marks?? Also, did you have a comment or something to add??

Biwire speaker cable. Is it worth it?

The two cables used in biwiring are physically connected at the receiver's binding posts. This means that, from an electron's point of view, they behave as one cable (albeit a thicker one.) The effect is indistinguishable from replacing the jumper with a longer cable.

    Should I sell?

It depends on how confident you are in your skills. If you feel certain you can build something better than the SVS for the same price, I say go for it.

yamaha rx-v2500 vs a rotel RSX-1067 vs sunfire ultimate receiver 3

Gotta hand it to Sunfire for one thing, their amps put out a lot of power for their size. Even their entry-level unit is 200 watts X 5 (and 400 watts into 4 ohms, implying very high current.) Might be a good choice for power-hungry speakers.

Biwire speaker cable. Is it worth it?

That is cheap enough that you won't be out much when you don't hear a difference. I suppose that replacing corroded cable could give you some improvement.

Biwire speaker cable. Is it worth it?

Sure, why not Monster? You are obviously dead-set on paying too much money for something that will not make a difference, and Monster suits that goal perfectly.

Biwire speaker cable. Is it worth it?

It will make no audible difference.

    listen to JAZZ!

I doubt that luck has anything to do with it. Lots of rich retirees are a much more likely explanation. One thing I miss about Raleigh, NC is the free jazz concerts in the park. I saw The Rippingtons, The Yellowjackets, Acoustic Alchemy, and The Canadian Brass there.

    CLOSE ENCOUNTERS 30th anniversary release

My parents use Netflix. I suppose it is convenient by rental standards, but it is nowhere near as convenient as having immense stacks of DVDs in the closet!:p

    listen to JAZZ!

I have the complete Ken Burns Jazz documentary set (DVDs, CDs, and book.) Expensive, yes, but an excellent investment for those who wish to learn about jazz history. (Being old, many of the recordings on the CDs are not so great, but the performances are outstanding.)

What makes one DVD player better/worse than another?

I have never noticed two DVD player looking or sounding much different from each other. I tend to think more in terms of convenience features. I love my Sony because it remembers the last stopping point on the last several DVDs that have been played (not sure how many, but a lot. I can go weeks...

    Would I miss Yammy's DSP if I bought a Marantz 7500 or 8500?

My Yamaha has all the DSP modes. Personally, I don't hear any significant difference between them and plain PL or DTS. (Not saying no difference, just that its subtle and really only detectable by direct A/B comparison.) If I didn't have DSP, I am certain I wouldn't miss it.

    Component DACs vs. Receiver DACs?

I love the sound of the (single drawer) Denon CD/DVD player I have now, and it works flawlessly. I tried one of their changers, however, and while it sounded great when it worked, I had serious mechanical issues with it (refusing to read certain discs that other players have no problem with...

    CLOSE ENCOUNTERS 30th anniversary release

I have that one. I am not inclined to buy it again just because it is a slightly different version.

    listen to JAZZ!

I have a fair amount of jazz in my collection. Some of it is "hard" jazz (eg Sonny Rollins) but most is "smooth" jazz (eg Spyro Gyra.) My current favorite is Mindi Abair, and one of my all-time favorites is Bill Frissel. Oh, and anyone who has not heard Herb Alpert simply must do so. A lot of...

But I Already HAVE a DVD Player!

Those of us who have been collecting DVDs for years, and have now ammassed collections worth thousands of $, are in no hurry to replace them with something new. Also, DVD still has the power to impress, especially with certain material (the aerial views of Las Vegas that open most CSI episodes...

    Concert DVD’s?

I also liked Peter Gabriel's Growing Up, as well as his Secret World tour. Fleetwood Mac's The Dance is great, but my copy is not widescreen (if widescreen is available, I haven't seen it.) The Blue Man Group's Rock Tour is one of my favorites. If you are looking for something outside the...
