    Primus Sucks!

There are a lot of new (or at least recent) groups that I really enjoy. Ones that I can think of offhand include: Secret Machines New Pornographers Interpol Rilo Kiley Bright Eyes The Arcade Fire Battles Granddaddy Low Mew The Young Knives Midlake The Bird and the Bee Animal...

    Primus Sucks!

I agree and would take it further. Geddy's unique style and range make him an acquired taste, but once you learn to appreciate it for what it is, it becomes clear that he is a great singer. Neil's songs were written for Geddy's voice, and I don't think anyone else could sing them nearly as well.

    The Boston Experience

The only reason for the resurgence of vinyl is the "loudness wars" which are leading to poor mastering of CDs. The vinyl version of a given title is sometimes mastered differently, and intended to appeal to an audiophile audience. This is the only way that vinyl can sound better, since CDs (when...

    Why Do We Like Music?

One of the things I like about music that has not been mentioned so far is the way it moves in three dimensions. Imaging/soundstaging has always been a top priority for me because of this, and it is also why I do most of my listening in a darkened room. Some sounds have "solid" forms resembling...

    The Boston Experience

Here is something even sadder: The B&W website now lists "ipod speakers" on an equal footing with hi fi and home theatre.

    Headphones have spoiled me!

I only listen to headphones when I cannot listen to my speakers (too late at night, on the road, etc.) I hate the pressure of headphones against my ears, the lack of tangible (as opposed to merely audible) bass, the way that the imaging moves with my head instead of remaining fixed when my head...

    CD player

In the time it takes me to get from the player to my chair (about 6 ft) after inserting a disc, it has finished loading and is ready to play. The only issue is that the remote is a bit fussy about selecting tracks numbered above 10, but I don't know how much better a CD-only player would be at this.

    CD player

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. There is no gain in simplicity. My 557 is as easy to use as any stand alone CD player on the market. Indeed, anyone who uses it to play a CD without seeing the "DVD" sticker would never guess that it isn't a dedicated CD player, since it behaves exactly like...

    b&w 685 speakers?

Why on earth are you planning to buy them if you haven't heard them yourself? IMO they are great speakers, but speakers are very subjective, and I would never consider buying anything without auditioning first.

    CD player

I don't really see a reason for a CD only player. Today's DVD and universal players are so good at playing CDs, and so cheap, that stand-alone CD players no longer have any clear advantages. I use a Denon DVD-557 as a CD player, and it sounds great.

    Primus Sucks!

When I was growing up, the music was everything, and nobody cared what the musicians looked like (in most cases, we didn't even know what they looked like.) (Solo singers were an exception, of course.) Steve Howe, Geddy Lee, Lemmy, etc. were just simply not photogenic. Then MTV came along, and...

    First ever CD

Maybe I missed the news bulletin, but I was not aware that any of that had been proven. The last I heard, those were only allegations (if they do get proven, I will be the first to tell you that MJ belongs in prison.) The last time I checked, the rule in this country was still "innocent until...

    Definitive Technology Speakers

Which models? That makes a big difference. I love my BP10b fronts and 8b surrounds in my HT. Recently, I tried the 10bs in my 2-channel system again (for the first time since getting new electronics) and love them there also. My current setup is the 10bs for stereo, the 8bs for HT mains, and...

Do CRTs Have A Native Resolution?

Someday, my tube will die. When it does, I will replace it with something bigger (which will probably be cheap by then.) In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy it.

    First ever CD

What bothers me is that people reject his music because of his lifestyle. If I were going to do that, I would have to stop listening to music by anyone who was such a loser that they died of preventable lifestyle-based causes before the age of 30. Think of how much I would miss out on if I did...

    Are We Done Yet?

That might be my third choice: after a root canal or a Listerine enema.

    First ever CD

Live concert tickets I can understand (especially for once in a lifetime events like Led Zeppelin.) Doing that with movie tickets, however, is pretty obsessive.

    World's 42 most expensive speakers

Sometimes you get the best of both worlds. When I bought my B&Ws, they sent me a nice pen. (Later, I sold the speakers but kept the pen.:))

    New credenza

My neighbor had an (expensive) computer plus several peripherals delivered. She wasn't home, so they just left all the boxes stacked in the breezeway!

    BMG Music Service fiasco

Thank you. The part about not being able to collect anything after 7 years means they don't have a leg to stand on.
