    Primus Sucks!

I absolutely love Saucerful of Secrets and Ummagumma. I agree that The Division Bell sucks, and am ambivalent about More. PFs worst album by a wide margin (IMO, of course) was The Final Cut.

    UK to Ban Plasmas?

I am willing to believe that you are a good person, but you are selling yourself short by thinking that your beliefs are the cause of this. It is much more probable that it is just your nature. Religion (all religion, not just christianity) has done vastly more harm than good throughout...

    THE 80s MUSIC THREAD

I remember My Sharona by The Knack, Only song I ever heard by them. Also Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles, Cars by Gary Numan, You Spin Me Round (don't remember the band), and Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

I saw them in concert back in the day. Good show.

    Led Zep Threatens Reunion

Page and Plant have been touring together (and performing LZ songs) for years. This wouldn't be that big of a change.

    Primus Sucks!

Me too. In fact, a lot of my music is instrumental. (Also, a lot of it that has singing would be improved if it didn't!) I also enjoy listening to music in a foreign language, as not understanding the lyrics helps me appreciate the voice as an instrument. (A recent favorite is Tinariwen.)

    UK to Ban Plasmas?

I have seen both religious people who are profoundly evil (including serial killers) and atheists who are paragons of virtue. Religious faith and ethical behavior are, therefore, quite independent of one another.

    UK to Ban Plasmas?

My father (who is much more of a historian than I will ever be) had the best comment on this. He said: "Nobody knows whether or not communism works, because it has never been tried." The point being that attempts to implement true communism (which, as a philosophy, contains many good ideas) have...

    Primus Sucks!

Really, I suppose that the ratio of c**p music to good stuff has remained about constant through all eras. If it seems like music was better in the past, it is because we remember the ones that were worth remembering, and forget the rest.

I agree with you 100%. I only visit here when I am at work. (I have better things to do on my own time!:D)

    Primus Sucks!

Whatever happened to riff rock? Simple but catchy melodies, toe-tapping rythm, and power chords in exactly the right places so that you couldn't help but play air guitar. It is hard to find bands that do that anymore, and it used to be what everyone aspired to (some, such as Foreigner and...

Bill & Ted got some good use out of that one.:)

    THE 80s MUSIC THREAD

I counted 10 good bands on that list, out of 31 total. Not a bad ratio.:p

    THE 80s MUSIC THREAD

For better or worse (mostly worse IMO), music in the '80s was dominated by MTV. Suddenly, musicians with talent but not looks were pushed into the backgound while those with looks but no talent became stars (those with both became superstars.) Of the many fashion excesses, the one I remember...

    The Boston Experience

I have several large-format books of classic album artwork. That way, I get to enjoy it while enjoying the music in vastly superior CD sound quality.:)

    listen to JAZZ!

I have a brand new one from them (it was released a couple of months ago.) It is quite good. While I am here, I want to put in a plug for a new group called Floratone. Their self-titled debut is awesome (very bluesy, swampy jazz), and their members include the amazing Bill Frisell.

Your 5 favorite musical groups - Any genre

This is hard to answer because tastes change with time. Also, are we talking about current favorites or all-time favorites? Based on the number of CDs I own by each, I guess my top 5 would be: Brian Eno Peter Gabriel King Crimson Andreas Vollendweider Bill Frisell Runners up include...

    The Boston Experience

Good points. I agree except for the vinyl part (I will not be listening to vinyl again in this lifetime.)

    UK to Ban Plasmas?

Since hating right-wingers is a good thing, I don't find it unflattering in the least. (Because of the turn it has been taking, this discussion should really be moved to the Steam Vent.)
