I absolutely love Saucerful of Secrets and Ummagumma. I agree that The Division Bell sucks, and am ambivalent about More. PFs worst album by a wide margin (IMO, of course) was The Final Cut.

Me too. In fact, a lot of my music is instrumental. (Also, a lot of it that has singing would be improved if it didn't!) I also enjoy listening to music in a foreign language, as not understanding the lyrics helps me appreciate the voice as an instrument. (A recent favorite is Tinariwen.)

Really, I suppose that the ratio of c**p music to good stuff has remained about constant through all eras. If it seems like music was better in the past, it is because we remember the ones that were worth remembering, and forget the rest.

For better or worse (mostly worse IMO), music in the '80s was dominated by MTV. Suddenly, musicians with talent but not looks were pushed into the backgound while those with looks but no talent became stars (those with both became superstars.) Of the many fashion excesses, the one I remember...

I have several large-format books of classic album artwork. That way, I get to enjoy it while enjoying the music in vastly superior CD sound quality.:)

I have a brand new one from them (it was released a couple of months ago.) It is quite good. While I am here, I want to put in a plug for a new group called Floratone. Their self-titled debut is awesome (very bluesy, swampy jazz), and their members include the amazing Bill Frisell.
