    Powered studio monitors

I see. So unless I were to buy monitors significantly better (thus also significantly more expensive) than the ones I have, I am unlikely to hear any improvement? (I guess I thought that the advantage came from the speaker and amp being engineered to work together.)

    Powered studio monitors

I have a pair of KRK ST6s. Sometimes I prefer them to my Boston floorstanders (not sure why, just a different sound I guess.) I am powering them with a Carver CM-1090, which sounds great, but I have read that powered monitors are even better (I have no special love for KRK, and would consider...

    Powered studio monitors

I enjoy my passive studio monitors enough to be interested in trying powered models. Are any special electronics required, or is a reciever with pre-outs enough to hook them up? Since they have variable gain, could one perhaps skip the preamp and connect them directly to a CD player?

right here right now, which would you buy: BLU-RAY or HD-DVD player?

You forgot to include the "neither one" option. I am perfectly happy with standard DVD, and have no intention of upgrading.

    # of drivers vs. quality

The # of drivers is not nearly as important as how well the design as a whole is implemented. Both excellent systems with a single driver and mediocre systems with multiple drivers exist. The same holds for any specific design feature.

    Iraq undertakers: Feeling the Pinch

I like the site that lets you morph Bush's face into a monkey's. Its really hard to see any difference!:D

Extremely well stated. I agree 100% (especially with the skipping the war part.)

Bush is not as bad as Hitler. That is the nicest thing I can think of to say about him.:)

Format War Won - by the Internet?

If music or movies ever become download-only, I will just have to stick with what I have and stop buying new titles. I don't do downloads. Fortunately, I don't think that this scenario will happen because the industry knows there are a lot of us who feel the way I do about it.

James Randi and Fremer of Stereophile to test

Because speaker cables do not make any audible difference. To reliably identify a particular cable by ear would, therefore, be supernatural.

True, that is why I gave him the benefit if the doubt by adding "perhaps".

    Recording the Beatles

It does look like a nice book. I would buy it for $20.:)

    Iraq undertakers: Feeling the Pinch

Carter was merely ineffectual. Bush is actively bad (perhaps even evil.)

    Iraq undertakers: Feeling the Pinch

I am not aware of any connection between 9/11 and the first WTC bombing (different groups responsible.) Since there is no evidence that Bush's "Homeland Security" measures are effective, similar measures on Clinton's part are unlikely to have prevented it. Improving the Levees could have been...

    Iraq undertakers: Feeling the Pinch

Pretty pathetic and scary to think that there are actually people like that living in this country, isn't it.:(

Wrong as usual. What you quoted is simply being a Democrat. A "fanboy" would rave about how great the first president Clinton was.

    Iraq undertakers: Feeling the Pinch

How did you arrive at the equation Bush bad=Clinton great? I never suggested any such thing. Certainly, Clinton was an above-average president (and any Democrat is better than every Republican), but that is not being a "fanboy".

Not saying there haven't been other bad (or even terrible) presidents, only that Dubya is worse than any of them.

    Bi-wire or Bi-amp

One would get an identical result by using a heavier gauge wire. Biwiring has nothing to do with it. The only reason I can think of that a speaker company would recommend biwiring is that it might make them seem more "high end" to some of their more gullible customers.
