    Trying to remember the make/model...

No. They were a full egg-shape, not a half egg. Also, the driver was mounted at the pointy end, not in the middle. Thanks for trying, though.

    Trying to remember the make/model...

...of a pair of speakers I read a review of a while back. They were egg-shaped (not spherical like Orbs), used a single full-range driver, and were expensive for their size. I would enjoy auditioning them, but can't remember what they were called. (The most intriguing thing in the article was...

    Killer bass movies

You can use your truck stereo to listen to the soundtrack at the drive-in? This shows me how long it has been since I last went to one (and how old I am getting.:() The last time I was at a drive-in, the sound came from those awful little squawk-boxes outside the car windows.

CD Compression Depression Music Industry Idiocracy

Blame Oasis (or rather their engineer.) I read an article about them in Q. To make their album Definitely Maybe "catchier", it was mixed "with the meter always in the red". This made it "the loudest thing on every jukebox", and led to it being a hit. Mixing engineers have been following this...

Are audiophiles the most gullable of hobbyists

What gets really scary is when the guitar hobby is combined with an essentially unlimited supply of money. Have you ever seen Steve Howe's guitar collection? Or David Gilmore's?

    Heard a live band today

The best drum recording in my collection is Persian and Middle Eastern Percussion by Zarbang. It is a live recording with all acoustic instruments. When I listen to it, I am there!

Anyone listen to anything like this?

I have no clue what "screamo" is, but it definitely doesn't seem like something I would be interested in. As for Linkin Park, any rap is too much rap. (Also, they can't even spell "Lincoln".)

    Heard a live band today

Even if I lived where I could get away with it, I would never play my stereo at or near live concert volume. Concerts are way too loud, and who wants to have to use earplugs at home? (I went to a lot of concerts without earplugs in my teens. It is only by luck that my hearing is intact.)

    Bi-Amp Mains vs Presence Fronts

Personally, I find 4 speakers sufficient to provide the full surround experience. I would add a center if I had any off-axis viewers, and a sub if I had less bass-capable mains. Beyond that, I fail to see how adding even more speakers could provide any advantage.

    Gas (Pricing) Is Getting Flatulent

I would happily switch to a small car if everyone else would also (at around the same time.) Driving one of the few small cars in a city full of redneck speed-demons in pickups and SUVs, however, is a losing proposition!

Are audiophiles the most gullable of hobbyists

The guy who did the test builds/sells subwoofers? No bias there, obviuosly!

    Towers in lieu of sub?

I don't need a sub. On the other hand, very few towers go as deep as my Def Tech BP10Bs (at least not at a reasonable price. I am sure that plenty of ultra-expensive ones do.)

Are audiophiles the most gullable of hobbyists

Yes, that is called phantom center. It sounds better than a real center to me, but I almost always watch movies alone. If I had guests for movies, I would probably want a real center. The BP10s have enough bass for my tastes in my 10' sq. room. Whether or not they are within +/-6db to 20Hz...

There has never been a better time to rent

I own all but the final season of Gilmore Girls (which is said not to be as good.) I am halfway through watching season two, and so far it is among my favorite shows of all time (right up there with Northern Exposure, which is saying a lot.):)

My thinking is cascading filters introduces phase distortion.

    But why do you care?

AllPosters.com Best customer service I have ever experienced

I doubt that I will ever even bother to watch Transformers. It really doesn't look very interesting to me.

    Gas (Pricing) Is Getting Flatulent

I feel sorry for whoever becomes president next (well, sort of sorry. They chose to run, after all.) This whole mess is going to be dumped in their lap (and it may make the Great Depression look like happy times.:()

Was Dylan The Best Lyricist Of All Time?

I appreciate a lot of Dylan's lyrics, and his guitar playing, but not his singing. What I like best are his songs covered by others. (The Byrds practically built their career on Dylan covers, all of which are awesome.)
