Tiger attacks & kills 1 and injures 2

OK. So they did several things that they shouldn't have, and for which they are undoubtably in deep trouble. This does not mean that the zoo isn't liable, since the wall was too short.

    NAD L54 DVD receiver

Well, I did it. I ordered the L54. Am I crazy? Probably, but I just loooove shiny new toys. I am hoping for a step up in sound, but even if it isn't, I love the way it looks. My 2-channel setup is now complete (at least until I replace it entirely!:D) FWIW I got it from Audiophile...

    Cloverfield.

I hate jerky, hand-held camera stuff. I need dramamine to watch it. Blair Witch Project totally sucked.

    big bands

That is the unfortunate thing about great music of the past, recording technology jut wasn't up to the task. There probably are modern bands playing that material, but can any of them be as great as Benny Goodman, Chick Webb, et al?

Tangerine Dream, especially the early stuff (Phaedra, Rubicon.) For Hammond-organ heaviness, try Brightblack Morning Light. To really be reminded of your wasted youth, try Ozric Tentacles, The Legendary Pink Dots, and Pure Reason Revolution.

    Best Bookshelfs for Under $300

The grilles on those were an afterthought, and they look like an afterthought. The old ones, without grilles, looked better (IMO, of course.)

    NAD L54 DVD receiver

You don't think so, then, even though NAD consistently receives top ratings and awards for sound quality? Nobody has the H500 for sale. Another option would be not spending money, perish the thought!

    NAD L54 DVD receiver

J&R has a related one, the H300 MK III. Together with the matching CD player, it would cost about the same as what I can get the NAD on sale for, and is rated at 35 watts to the NADs 50. I really like the idea of a single-piece system, though, and that NAD is gorgeous looking. (Also, I don't...

    Best Bookshelfs for Under $300

Mirage Omni 150s are still available a Ultimate for $280/pr. They are absolutely stunning. In spite of being small for bookshelves, their bass output easily rivals that of my floorstanding Polk Monitor 50s. The omnipolar design provides a huge soundstage that will make your room seem much...

    NAD L54 DVD receiver

Has anyone heard it? If so, what are your impressions? Is it worth $700 for an audio-only system?

Speaker Spikes and Cones – What’s the point?

My new Mirages are very tall compared to their width. Without the spikes, they would fall over on carpet.

Cambridge Audio A5 or NAD 320BEE?

What Hi Fi tends to prefer Cambridge, but NAD products often have better specs. If there is any difference at all (which seems unlikely), you will only find out by listening.

Since I like X, then you recommend Y

Thanks. All the suggestions so far have been for bands from the same era as Styx, which I therefore know about already. I was wondering if there were recent bands along those lines.

If you like Steely Dan, try Umphrey's McGhee or Gomez. If you like Jackon Browne, try John Mayer (and The Eagles, of course, but that is obvious.) I have always liked the heavy but simple and catchy riffs of bands like Styx and Foreigner. Any suggestions?

    Revelation

I have expressed some strong opinions, which some here disagree with, but I don't think that that is in any way rude. Other people frequently express opinions with which I strongly disagree, but I don't consider them impolite either (like me, they have every right to say what they think.) I...

    Teac Dr-h300

I do think I should keep the amp. It is a really good amp (I have the analog gauges covered up, though, because they can't be dimmed and are too bright in a darkened listening room.) I could try a new CD player and see if I can detect any difference. I would actually prefer a single tray to my...

    The Downfall of HD DVD

I always figured that the death of both HD and Blu Ray will result from the fact that, like me, most customers are happy with standard DVD and have no interest in investing in new formats.

Speaker shopping (B&W) Would appreciate some advice on choice and where to buy

I had the 602s and thought they were great. Later, I decided to "upgrade" to the 705s. I ended up concluding that they were not actually better (or certainly not enough better to justify the price difference.) I think that sticking with the 600 series will give you much greater bang/buck.

    Teac Dr-h300

It is sounding more and more like I should just stick with what I have (or at least the Carver. A "better" CD player may be possible in theory, but I remain skeptical that it could make a difference in practice.) As I said, my present combo looks ugly but sounds great.

    Clean slate

The speakers are a done deal. The problem with Parasound is that I want all my electronics to match, and they don't make a CD player (that I know of.) Pretty much settled on the TEAC Reference DR-H300 at this point.
