NAD C715 and TEAC CR-H227i-B Same thing??

The TEAC micro components do exude serious cool factor. Unfortunately, while the receiver is available in the US, the integrated amp is not.

    Voting On Tuesday ?

Let's start by dramatically slashing the military budget, which is where most of the money is wasted.

Is your Bonus check going into your system?

I don't know whether or not I will get a bonus check, but I will be getting a total of $800 in tax returns. I may put it towards a bigger TV. My current audio system is good enough that I would need to save up at least $3000 to get an audible upgrade.

    Voting On Tuesday ?

I usually only vote in presidential election years. I simply don't know enough about the local and state candidates to make an informed decision.

    Disappointed with Blu-Ray

Agreed. My first DVD player was like a whole new world. BD/HD just doesn't seem anywhere remotely as dramatic.

    Cheap Old Bookshelves

Any of the Boston A-series from the '80s (particularly the A40s or A60s) would sound great. Altec-Lansing also made some great bookshelves in that era.

    Synergy

Some really good responses here, food for thought. I recently discovered that a small, low-powered amp that is 4 Ohm stable sounds better with my Mirages than a significantly more powerful amp that is not. I suppose that counts as "synergy" of a sort.

NAD C715 and TEAC CR-H227i-B Same thing??

Since I was coming from a 100 watt/ch amp, I thought that lack of power might be an issue. I was wrong. In my room, there is not only sufficient power, but plenty of headroom. The Onkyo is also 4 Ohm stable. I decided to try it with my Mirages, which are less efficient than the Athenas. I only...

    Synergy

Does "synergy" between certain brands of electronics and speakers really exist? As a common example, it is often said that Rotel works especially well with B&W. Is there anything to this, or is it merely that they are part of the same company? Also, in the case of companies that make both...

NAD C715 and TEAC CR-H227i-B Same thing??

Strike that last comment. I checked the specs on their top-line unit, and it is no better than the 315 except for having a changer.

    Simaudio Moon CD-1

I have yet to hear any CD player over $200 that strikes me as being worth the money, and even $200 is only if you get a changer. The issue is not that fancy players aren't good, but that entry-level players sound so excellent that they don't leave much room for improvement. Of course, if you...

    Smurfs turn 50!

I was going to say that they are only 27, but according to the article there was a comic book for a long time before the TV show.

NAD C715 and TEAC CR-H227i-B Same thing??

Not that I have noticed, except while loading. I have to walk over and put my ear next to it to hear any noise during playback. The drawer seems pretty robust for this type of unit, also. (I am starting to be very curious about their top executive system, since this one is the cheapest.)

    Disappointed with Blu-Ray

Hmm. for my 34" TV, that calculator recommends from 3.8 ft (way too close IMO) to 12.8 ft (way too far.)

Why doesn't anyone recommend old speakers?

When people recommend new speakers, they have known availability and price to base the recommendation on. With used speakers, this changes daily.

NAD C715 and TEAC CR-H227i-B Same thing??

It is exactly the same dimensions, weight, and specs as the NAD and TEAC units, with a very similar front-panel layout. It does claim "WRAT" and "discrete amplifier circuitry" which would seem unique, but NAD claims proprietary tech also. Anyway, the price was right and I enjoy the combination...

    Heath Ledger RIP

Now, apparently, the same brain-dead scumbags who have been turning up a military funerals with their "god hates fags" signs are protesting Ledger's memorial. I don't understand how those fools have escaped a really severe beating for this long.

NAD C715 and TEAC CR-H227i-B Same thing??

It is also the same thing as the Onkyo CR-315, which I just picked up as an open-box for $200, including speakers. I gave the speakers to a neighbor, and hooked up my Athena F1s (which have 91dB sensitivity and a reasonably well-behaved impedance curve.) It turns out that a volume setting of 25...
