    Project Naim

what exactly does an active crossover actually do? Separates the line level signal into two or more ranges. The .1 output on receivers is a subwoofer output. and what would i need to Tri-Amp those Kef speakers? (i'm thinking it's a pre-amp with three Power Amps) Yes, however you...

    Placement of Sub-woofer

You might as well sell the sub. Putting it in a cabinet/closet will defeat the purpose.

Finally took a stand against the music industry

I would have bought the CD. If it did not allow "ripping" to my HDD I would have returned it. I have done this in the past and will probably do so in the future. After forking out $14+ for a CD I feel I have the right to extract the one or two songs I like and put them on a compilation. I do...

    4ohm vs. 8ohm?

Home audio speakers are not all 8 Ohm speakers. They can be and are 4 or 8 or anything in between. For home audio the impedance of a given speaker is not all that important. As long as the amp you are using can work into the impedance it is not really an issue. Most if not all decent home...

Announcing the hPod Digital Music Player... uh, by HP

I certainly hope so Jeff. Maybe HP will allow discount sales. In that case I might be tempted to purchase one. I would have to be very tempted as I really abhor headphones. Incidentally I have a pair of Stax and still don't like phones.

    Magnepan Planar Ribbon Speakers

The Magnepan 1.6QR's are possibly the best buy in audio. $1600 a pair and worth every penny. The other products from Magnepan are no slouches. IMHO Magnepan has never made a bad speaker. Given they do not have head banging bass they have every thing else. You can always add a subwoofer.

    Jazz CD.....need recommendation

If you like jazz and don't own a copy of Miles Davis's Kind Of Blue you're just a pretender. I own 1000 plus jazz lp's and cd's. I can compile a list of what I consider essential if requested. Dave Coz Boney James and the like play smooth jazz, otherwise known as urban contemporary music. Many...

Announcing the hPod Digital Music Player... uh, by HP

Amongst us who make our living with computers we call HP Hewlett Crappard. We usually recommend purchasing from other manufacturers. This does not apply to printers. I would be sceptical of any HP branded I-Pod. The software necessary for proper operation is probably unobtainable.

    Absolute Phase problem

I tried to make clear that the inter speaker phasing was always correct ie: a positive voltage applied to the red bannana socket caused a forward motion, both speakers were connected in phase with each other in this respect. What is puzzling is that there is an enormous difference when the...

2 receivers to 1 set of speakers

Pardt Express has a switcher. Catalog #300-604 DLS 6 Pair, 2 Source Speaker switch. Be forewarned it is $100+. That said; I am as curious as mytrycrafts. I am puzzled as to why one receiver for music and one for HT? Huh?

    Absolute Phase problem

Thank you WmAx, although we are satisfied with the sound now we are very puzzled and want to know for curiosity's sake. To clarify for others. When I say we reversed the speaker cables that means we reversed the connections on both cables at one end. We know changing the signal cables should...

    What's the deal with cables?

DIY cables I guess you're right Mudcat. Pride does have a lot to do with DIY. Like you I make all my cables. I also make modify amps etc. I made my own racks thanks to TNT Audio. Their double flexy rack works just fine for me.

    Absolute Phase problem

Phase We have tried flipping the speaker cables (Kimber TC8) at both ends. We have replaced or substituted the cables from the pre to power. We have settled on the "phase" that sounds right. We are just puzzled by the differences we hear.

    What's the deal with cables?

Cables Make your own cables. Save money and get your money's worth. Try John Risch's site."www.geocities.com/johnrisch/il.htm". This is a PDF file with complete directions and pictures for rolling your own cables. I was going to attach it but it is too large.
