Do I get a color choice on the hot wheels car? Can I get fries with that? Will you supersize it please?

    Ohm Loudspeakers?

After B(l)ose started sueing magazines for negative reviews they all pulled back on the negative language. You have to read between the lines in order to really get what they are saying. Also, check the $ensible $ound for well written down to earth reviews.

people who have bonfires on hot summer evenings

It seems that with some creativity one could cause it to rain in a neighbors yard. Here in the US we all have hoses and sprinklers in our back yards.

    PSB Subs

Standard audiophile advice concerning speakers is do not buy anything you haven't heard.

    Newb Question about Towers/BookShelfs

With very few exceptions even full range speakers can benefit from a sub. I mean a true sub that is maximally flat to 18 or 20 Hz at 100+db. This excludes most of the smaller and less expensive subs. If all you want is movie thumps then virtually anything masquerading as a sub will do. If you...

    Speaker Cable Measurements - Question

Large amounts of capacitance and inductance can cause instability in some amps. Less of both is better.

Vandersteen Speakers / Small Room Situation

As a true lover of planar speakers. I have convinced at least half a dozen fellow audiophiles to purchase maggies or some type of electrostatics. The only person to go back to boxes bought some big vandys and I actually like them. His wife just couldn't stand the size of the MG3's. The vandy's...

    Getting rid of transformer hum

I may be wrong but I don't see how DC can cause hum. Hum is an artifact of AC. Try checking the rectifier. If part of the bridge is shot you will get hum. This will be because you are getting AC leakage through your power supply rails. Bear in mind this is after the transformer. The transformer...

What was the first CD you ever bought?

What's really interesting is that I can't remember the first CD I bought but I can remember the first 2 LP's. Aretha Franklin Running Out Of Fools and Lou Rawls Soulin'. I bought them in 1967

Speaker cable and RCA interconnects- help me choose

As far as I can tell the only thing very expensive cable does is line the manufacturers pocket.

    Ohm Loudspeakers?

I haven't heard any Walsh type speakers in a while. The OHM F's I heard a while ago where quite impressive. They did need a lot of power. I hear that their current models are more efficient. A return policy does give you the chance to hear them in your own environment. It is after all the best...

    4ohm vs. 8ohm?

I think we are getting away from your original question. Worrying about a HT speaker being 4 or 8 ohms is not as important as how it sounds with your equipment. I suggest you go to a decent high end store and listen to some speakers. If you know any audiophiles in your area check out their...

    4ohm vs. 8ohm?

One of my audio buddies stuck me with the SP9 moniker. I actually own one. When I purchased it I told him it was my last pre-amp (hah!). It does have all the latest upgrades. I did recently see a pair of mini grands for sale on Audiogon. I was very tempted.

    20 1/2 year old stereo

As far as old stuff goes I use an Accuphase T101 analog tuner. It is the best tuner I have ever been able to afford. Here in Phila. when Temple radio WRTI 90.1 goes of the air I can pick up Howard Univ. from Wash. DC on the same fq. The Accuphase is an early 80's model.

    System opinion and some questions

Never thought it could harm anything. Although I wonder how the auto setup would work (what the results would be) with both connected simultaneously. Placing both in the same corner could lead to some interesting cancellations and reinforcements.

    4ohm vs. 8ohm?

I don't really disagree with what you are saying. However someone who is asking about differences between 4 and 8 ohm speakers is probably not going to buy a pair of Apogee Scintilla's or Diva's. Apogee's have a rep for being very bad loads. They approach 1 ohm at times. In those circumstances...

    20 1/2 year old stereo

The Stereo 120 has my vote for the worst sounding amp of all time. The Dynaco factory used to be almost around the corner from my house (three blocks away). I still own a PAT-5, PAS-3, Stereo 70, 2 Mk3's and yes a Stereo 120. I originally bought the solid state gear to replace the tubes but the...

    Gender of Audiophiles

I am a vinylphile. Over the years the few women who have expressed any interest at all in my rig have always without exception preferred vinyl. This should get some of you anti vinyl folks thinking. When I play vinyl for them the always say it sounds better than CD's. Yes I do have quite a few...

    System opinion and some questions

IMHO using both subs is not a good idea. Having two different speakers doing the same thing is not a good idea. Sort of like having a JBL for the left main and a Polk Audio for the right main. Either one can be very good when paired properly but not when mixed.

    20 1/2 year old stereo

You might want to give that old Sanyo a try with some newer speakers. I beleive you might be very surprised with the sound. The art of speaker building has changed and improved a lot more than electronics. For low to moderate levels 20W may be more than sufficient.
