Is it me or are Emotivas prices getting a little high?

Keep it down, man. I've got Irvin on the hook for that IPS-1. Mentally, anyway. Well, in my mind, I mean. :D
lol, Im sure that thing will sell on ebay... Is that what you had a problem with?

They will certainly be one of the only ones standing with a pre-pro let alone 2 or 3.
...and we all know how that has gone for them so far. If you want to talk about damaging a company (and their rep) I think Emotiva has done a pretty good job of this with their pre-pros so far.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I'd say they have consistently bitten of more than they could chew. They have great dreams, but not any know how on how to make it happen profitably. If the big boys are having trouble making a pre pro, that was a red flag that they should have stayed the hell away from it.

Honestly if I were them I would not make pros, preamps, are easy I would still make dacs and stereo preamps.. but for the processor I would have a company like Denon make circuitry and throw it in there chassis...

Specialize in amps{ht and music}, subs, music systems, and interconnects for it all... I wouldn't mess with speakers {people are too picky, and should be}, I would make passive and active subs {who can mess that up, lol}, and specialize in really nice music systems which they already have a good start, xsp1, xda2, and the usp1 and their cd player.... just maybe add a decent turntable that is a better value than the project carbon.... I think they would also be smart to jump on the class t small low powered stuff, maybe a little tripath that makes 40x2 for $80....

The UMC 200 has been a solid offering for years now. From what I have heard from owners it's a very solid component. So I don't think their rep has been harmed long term in that regard.

One thing I don't allow with my company is aggressive product and feature announcements when we are no where near completion. Currently we are working on an entire new implementation of our SaaS solution for iPads. We aren't telling out customers about it before hand. They will just get an email with it's availability.

Emotiva hasn't learned as of yet that people like surprise gifts.

I think Uturn could be well on their way to filling that void under the pro-ject carbon, especially if their initial offerings turn out to be any good, which it looks like they stand a pretty good chance of. As for a t-amp, I'd order another SMSL before I ordered one from emo.

I was gonna wait until next summer and buy one of these at ~$1700. Now that I know there won't be a sale, I might just look elsewhere. 3 crown XLS 2000 will only cost me $1300 and be much lighter.

Emotiva might have just lost $1700 over a messily $300.

Finally someone else prefer not having unnecessary weights.:D My only issue with Emo has been their poor power to weight ratio, it just seems silly to me for some of their class AB models to be so heavy. I also thought that could be their marketing's idea to add weight to their power amps so some people may automatically think they are well built and more powerful than they are.

I'm not disagreeing with you and not knowing what Emotiva's marketing strategy really is...

When KFC introduced the bucket of chicken they decided that it didn't feel heavy enough and added biscuits as a cheap way of creating a sense of it being a good value. They sold a lot of chicken...

It's a reasonable thing to do, especially in the home audio market place. Many still question an amps true ability by the weight of it. Why open yourself to the question of quality if you don't have to. "Built like a tank" is a good thing right? As long as you are not going overboard on size and/or cost to do so I don't see it as a problem.

Class D amps are designed with field use in mind. Shipping an amp from show to show cost $$$. Temp power at a show is charged per circuit size.
While all these guys are buying new amps to save $$, I am scooping up the retiring Macrotech's. You can drop one off a truck in mud, hose it off, and dry it out, and it will work 99.9% of the time.

No class D amps aren't designed for field use in mind. That's like saying all diesel vehicles are designed to tow 42' trailers. There are many reasons for class D. I agree that this is driving down the price of used amps and getting a Macro/Microtech 1200 or 2400 at a bargain is awesome.

I would be surprised if 1% of Crown equipment is purchased new for home use. Their Lion's share of the market is pro-commercial use.

Class D has widespread use in more areas than just pro-audio.

No surprise there. Crown is pro company and their target audience is music pros.
That said I have seen one too many F-150 and/or Lincoln Mark LT used for light personal commute in nyc.
Aka some times consumers do pick up (pun intended) clearly commercial tools as use them for none-commercial purposes.

Yes sir. That would be me.;) I have a 6' rack of Crown. From R to R to 2 recently aquired Macrotech 1200's.
I am currently working with a well known transducer engineer to make my own array's for home use.
I will start a thread when that project gets going. (With his permision of course).

you'd see about 100000x more trucks being used as daily drivers here, from people who do zero heavy hauling D:

of course, there will be far more people here with a legitimate need for a truck as well
