mtrot, your listening habits seem to be close to mine. I listen to more modern rock, country, electronica, but a lot of ht/tv as well.

ridikas, the reason why I bring up the different genres for certain speakers is because I've seen several personal reviews of the psb image that mentioned they didn't like them very well with rock. I've been interested in them but have been keeping them off my list because of that.

Those reviews must have been nonsense then. Go out and listen to the PSBs. They are extremely well engineered and tested at the NRC anechoic chamber. They are very low in distortion. They should sound great with anything, including rock :)

P.S. I never understood that whole idea behind certain speakers are better for rock, or for pop, or for classical, or for movies, etc. A good speaker is a good speaker.
A good speaker is a good speaker; however, no speaker is perfect, and when you get down to it, different compromises are acceptable for different jobs.

Plan on doing some auditioning after Christmas. I' ve got a good 150 mile drive to go hear something. I cant buy until my income tax return comes in. As far as the psb reviews go....check out crutchfields review section for them. 2 of 4 said no go for rock

There's no real standards with measurements. Everyone measures differently. Some measure in their rooms, some in their back yards. And not enough data, only a few snap shots. They give us good ideas, but no guarantees.

Now that's a new twist into audio measurements and a user could have a very high ceiling :D
I would like to read up on how those measurements are taken. I think soundstageav.com probably does a good job but there isn't enough information on their site about how they do it other than this:

SoundStage! Measurements - How we test loudspeakers...

and B&W's blog has this:

Tools of the trade - frequency response measurements | Bowers & Wilkins | B&W speakers

I need to find more to read.

Who did them in their room and back yard?

John Atkinson measures his speakers in a room. He measured the KEF Q900 in his back yard.

With the exception of the NRC, most people measure the speakers in rooms - Stereophile, Audioholics, HTML, S&V, etc.

Of course, KEF, Revel, B&W, Focal, Dynaudio, TAD, ATC, etc, measure their speakers in anechoic chambers.
