Hi, my name is Justin and I have never owned a subwoofer.

Subs

Great thread! Great job on describing your auditioning of those subs Justin. As an owner of both svs and HSU I wanted to chime in. I have the PBS 12 plus 2 svs in a room larger than yours. My first impression I was blown away! Tight clean lifelike bass. (Of course the sub is huge).
I bought the HSU for our bedroom. It's just an 8 inch sub but I was very impressed by this sub. Also very very tight and clean and not boomy at all. The HSU is also well constructed. Now that I picked up the 8 inch HSU I can't even imagine what it's bigger brothers can do.
Good luck.

Thank you.

Strangely, I haven't given a lot of real consideration to the SVS PB12 NSD. The 1 year trade up program seems like a good deal.

I also heard back from a gentleman on AVS in my area that has two Outlaw LFM-1 EXes in his theater. I hope to audition in the next week or so and he said he may be interested in selling them. So we'll see.

PS: You familiar with Eaton (exit 10 on 70)? I take regular trips out that way (my wife is from there originally and of some interest, went to Miami at the same time as Ben Roethlisberger).
Looking back through the thread and missed your question, Steve.

Yes, very familiar with Eaton. I grew up in a little town called Farmersville that is about 20 minutes southeast of Eaton. Watched a number of high school football games at Eaton high school. :)

Good stuff!

I was born and raised in the DC area. Suffice it to say, it was an interesting experience the first time I went to meet my future in laws six years ago. Actually, all things considered, it went fairly well. The basic language of having a few beers, eating some burgers off the grill, and watching a football game (we were there for Miami's homecoming) translate pretty well. Plus that's how/where I got into my other little hobby of shooting :D You can't exactly go into your backyard here and start popping off rounds. Out there where they are, different story. Saves on range fees for sure.

Edit: Just to give an idea of the culture shock...they have donkeys (which our dog thinks he can herd...)...I don't think I had ever seen a donkey outside of TV and maybe a zoo...

Honestly, donkeys aren't all that common even around here. But Eaton is farm country so I'm not surprised. Did you ride one?

I have the option to buy a RYTHMIK FV15HP with only a few hours on it for $950. It's available locally...no shipping costs or taxes. I'd have to stretch the budget a bit. Is that a deal?

I'd say so assuming condition is good; may want to verify with Brian at Rythmik that the warranty (if any is left) is transferable. Either way, it's a heck of a sub, and compares quite well with my Ultra.

Yeah I know they're not a staple by any stretch. I've been to the Preble County Fair once or twice, and while I saw all manner of livestock, various events involving horses, etc...shockingly no big donkey arena. Still, gives me an excuse to call my father in law an @ss farmer :D

They're actually miniatures, so I'm pretty sure I'd snap their backs. They did have a mule for a while that I rode once though, and they acquired a pony for my son (also sure I'd kill the poor thing if I tried to ride it).

We watched Cabin the Woods tonight. Some good bass in this one. The dishes that were drying on the counter when we started the movie ended up on the kitchen floor. HAHA! :D

Have you run Audyssey since you installed the Paradigm sub? Which version PS-1000 did you get ?

If not Audyssey will EQ the sub and help with room issues. In fact this is where Audyssey applies most of its processing power.

It's a V.1 PS-1000. I ran Audyssey on Saturday but calculated after the first position. I need to do it again with all six. I'm curious to see if a full calibration will make a significant impact.

try not to spread out your positions so much. Avoid any measurement positions near walls or WAY off axis. Focus on different areas of the main seat, and keep the audyssey mic near head-height for the initial one especially.
