We still have power but the neighbors dont, I have dual backups gens now, so it wont be too bad {45KW total both propane with separate tanks}, we should be able to still do laundry have a/c on, and watch tv with all the lights on if it does go out..... Hopefully its just like nothing happened, just a couple days with the kids and wife home is all... Unless a tree blows through our roof...

I gotta admit, this is the first time I've ever seen a "snowfall warning" in a National Hurricane Center advisory statement.

Hurricane SANDY Public Advisory
The local county trucks have all installed their snowplows since only yesterday, I know we are not the forecasted area but I guess just like everything else about this storm, anything can happen so lets be prepared.

They closed the Subways but I wonder if Quizno's is still open.

The storm looks incredible. It's so big.

With the temperatures hypothermia is my other concern. Be sure to have dry clothes ready. You should be okay, but it will be bumpy.

The guys that barbeque indoors because the power is out or the ones that feel cold and get asphyxiated.
When I lived in Minnesota and it was -35 degrees F outside, I would grill in the garage. But I would open the back door for ventilation. I guess I never understood why some people would actually grill inside their house...Darwin would have had a field day with that one...

Stay safe out there, everyone! Back in the midwest, they are calling for waves up to 33 feet at the southern shores of Lake Michigan. Really won't impact Wisconsin too much except for wind and maybe some rain.

An a side note, so I'm at the airport to fly to Kansas City this morning. And there is a guy checking in to fly to Boston. And I'm thinking..."Haven't you been watching the news?" He seemed surprised that his flight was cancelled. How could you miss it? Heck, my kids were asking me about it and I finally showed them the maps that showed the hurricane and then Wisconsin. Far away, yet still getting impacted by it.

Too late for this storm, but the last time the power went out at my parents, they were the only ones with coffee. My dad was using an old camp-fire percolator on the side burner of the grill. Their house became the destination for coffee.

I just cooked all the leftovers in my fridge in one meal...

Bowl of white rice with a few pieces of broccoli
Container of pineapple cubes
Home made guacamole
baked chicken breast
3/4 jar of black beans

Sauted some onions then added black beans, after that was 70% cooked added rice and pineapple cubes with juice.. Mixed that all up and put in separate oven pans for each of us, added a layer of the chicken to the top and a layer of pepperjack chz... Seasoned with a lil chilli pepper, and baked for a little while..

Topped it with gaucamole and vawala' mexican, hawian, chicken rice...:D Surprisingly tasted really good...

I dont know why Im trying to get rid of stuff in the fridge are gennies are running and you wouldnt even know we dont have power, the internet is working, I didnt even tell the kids the power went out...

We have a few friends and their families on their way over, because they have no power, we have 3 guest rooms, 3 parlors, 4 full baths, and the kids have bunk beds in both their rooms so we have enough room for a few more families, but no room in the garages for the cars...

Electric still working , hence internet is up, Eye of the storm is 08 minutes from landfall about 14 miles north of here. The wind is whipping up at about 75 mph with wind driven rain at 90 degrees, yep parallel to the ground and blasting the east wall of my sturdy house.I feel safe yet nervous as all heck, we, my wife and I are keeping to my family room which is constructed of mostly lvl lam. beams all connected with stainless hurricane clips/straps and brackets. The roof is sheathed with 5/8 ply and the windows and doors are all Andersen hurricane rated , the rest of the house is all original framing which is older so we will stay away from that end.

Well, that does it, I'm not coming if I can't put my car in the garage.

LOL, OK, I can pull the Exmark zero turn out of one bay and park it in the shed, but thats only because you gave me a good deal on the cd player... And even though the mower is big I hope you have a compact..

I hope it was a large.

Rick's power has been out for an hour.

That's because you are a better person than Rick. :)
Maybe I just got lucky and Brother in times like this that's just fine with me.

Hang in there. I thought of you as I watched the weather radar showing the eye coming ashore a bit north of Cape May.

This storm is enormous. High winds and 4'-8' storm surges from the Chesapeake Bay to the south coast of New England.

On the bright side, it was an hour or two ahead of schedule. Maybe its starting to move faster.

You guys be safe and keep us updated as much as you can. Let me know if you need anything. You are in my prayers.

The wind is up to 4 mph here, you should have all just came over.
