Local bar/rest. Lobster House is filling up with sea water almost as high as a bar stool, I wish to post pics but it will have to wait.

The wind has really picked up substantially in the last ten minutes and the power has cut out twice for a few seconds.
I'm going up to fill both bath tubs with water to use for toilet flushing. We have well water, so no water if power goes out.

Stay in a safe interior area of your house away from the windows. Keep the interior doors in your home closed. This is just in case a window lets go or debris breaks through. Have some heavy blankets or a mattress ready to throw up over a broken window if needed. The wind and water is not the major problem at this point, it's the flying debris.

If you're in a flood area the rising water can be a significant problem. Be ready to move to higher ground or floor. If you do end up moving to an upper floor or worse the attic, be sure to have a heavy hammer or pry bar in case you're forced to break through the roof sheeting.

Stay in your home and stay safe. There will be plenty of time after the storm to address exterior damage.

Remember the old saying.....

If it's yellow, it's mellow.

If it's brown, flush it down.

Save the water. If you are on a septic system or even a sanitary sewer system, there will very likely be problems with either system. Either the ground will be saturated and the septic might back up or the sewer system will be backed up due to power loss or excess storm water filling the pipes. Sanitary sewer systems require pumps and electricity to operate. The water you see sitting around in the streets the next few days might not be just storm water. Beware of the brown trout that swim by.

Stay safe everyone. Things are starting to pick up here in the top of NY. Kids school is closing at one and the wind is supposed to really hit sometime after 2. Gusts up to 70.

No city water here either Rick, I have filled four blue plastic 50 gallon cans with fresh water and resealed the lids they are on my back deck blocking the path to my french doors, small gen. for the fridge and heat if needed with 40 gallons of gas, and four 36 x 60 x 5/8 ply pre cut in the utility room with the dewalt ready to patch a window if needed, bathtub is full, kitchen sink is full, laundry tub is full.

Oh yeah, I am a nervous wreck right now, this is freaking huge.

Thanks for the tips loser I know you have been in these shoes before.

One more tip if it's not too late.

Fill your fridge and freezer with bottled water or Tupperwear style containers full of water. Then set the thermostat as cold as it will go. The extra water mass will maintain temperatures longer than the air of an empty refridgerator. You can also use this water later to cook or drink. Run your generator for only as long as it takes to re-chill the refridgerator. You may have a tough time getting gas if the power stays off for an extended period. The gas pumps need eletricity to work, too. That was a big problem when hurricane Wilma went through Florida a few years back.

Save the water in the tubs to flush the toilets or wash with. Figure at least one gallon per person per day as a minimum.

watch for fumes

the worst thing about storm deaths are the completely avoidable ones. The guys that barbeque indoors because the power is out or the ones that feel cold and get asphyxiated. How about the ones eatting food w/o refrigeration two days later. Let's not forget our survival skills and accept a little discomfort. I'm a gulf coast resident 3 miles from the danger so i've been through it a bit. I almost forgot to mention the one that died from the generator fumes that came in through an open or broken window. Carbon monoxide is often undetected and absorbed by the body first in place of oxygen.

Welcome to Wildwood, this is the back bay working its way to the Beachfront, the prediction is that they will connect around 6 pm tonight which in laymans terms would pretty much mean the end of Wildwood for quite some time.
