I guess the Hulk has always been my favorite character. So I probably got upset when he's not like the way I picture it.
But, yeah, he is still definitely entertaining - the most entertaining IMO.
But I think Mike explained it well. As long as Bruce/Hulk sees the bad guys, he can control himself a lot better by channeling his anger on the bad guys. Otherwise, his anger is out of control and the person standing next to him is the bad guy.
I watched this again last night. The Hulk thing is stupid. How did he physically transform in 2 seconds. Here's my take on this genre of movies... it
should take itself seriously. That's what makes it more "real" and adaptable to the viewer. Let's look at a couple of examples:
The original Batman movies were comical. Somewhat enjoyable, but almost slapstick in a way. The first reboot with Christian Bale changes everything. The movies plays out with a fraction of the over the top nonesense and people can better relate = better movie
Star Wars. Let's look at the last 3 films. When did Jedi's become these super humans that could somehow jump out of a speeder, fall a mile through airship traffic, then just happen to land on the speeder he wanted... it's stupid. Look after the battle when the huge ship is falling to earth, breaking apart, and all that.. They're cracking jokes and don't even looked all that concerned.
The original Star War characters were fallible and more human. They got upset, they got scared, they appeared challenged. More real. Hence = better movie.
The first Iron Man to me is still the best because it was the most real. You could somewhat imagine it all happening somehow. When they get lazy and go for the easy gags, and do things that don't make sense (like the Hulk transformation) and cover it with the notion "well c'mon, it's just a movie" its cheapens it and makes a great movie just a pretty good one at best. it's the producers, writers, and the directors being lazy.
It's all still entertaining, but the more serious and "real" they make it, the better these far out unrealistic movies will be.
