I saw Avengers yesterday.

I thought it sucked.

I was very disappointed.

I hope Joss Whedon does not direct or write the next Avengers movie.

To be honest, the movie adaptations don't have stories that correlate to the comics in most cases. They hit major character points and then go off randomly. X-Men was a good example, using characters from different eras together, totally changing the real stories and relationships, and basically destroying the series, even though I was still entertained by the movies. Many comics actually have FAR deeper stories than the movies even touch on because YES, they are only interested in making money which means: big special effects and little else. This is exactly why they mostly have plot holes. The studios aren't interested in story, and for the most part, the audiences don't seem to be either. The MP3 generation is easy to please.

The best "graphic novel" superhero movie I've seen so far is Watchmen. If you are tired of super hero movies, watch that.

My brother and his wife liked it, but my other friend that I typically watch movies with felt the same way as you.

Watchmen is basically the opposite of a superhero movie, the "heros" are more villains than anything else. It's certainly a great antidote to The Avengers.

I'm IMAX 3-D'ing this later in the afternoon and I want to thank Mike for banning PC. Matt might be upset for a while but he'll get over it. :D

I just heard that somewhere else recently. Not bad, huh? Now I'm expecting to be super entertained by this. I'm glad I went back and read MarkW's comments to offset ADTG's obvious lack of taste. :p

I was at the IMAX recently and had issues with the audio being over driven which is a bummer but maybe it was just the seating position. I'm hoping this movie will make up for that. I'm taking my SPL meter along this time just for kicks.

I thought a 10 year old boy wrote and directed this movie.......I mean George Lucas. :D

I thought Avengers was a good movie. It didn`t take itself too seriously or anything, but seemed to hit on all the right notes. More antagonist development would have been nice, but wouldn`t have fit without cutting some action, and I think for a summer action movie, cutting action wouldn`t have been the best idea.

Joss Whedon is cool too. I grew up watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer every saturday :D

The only word i've ever used to describe Watchmen is "Pretentious".

Serious?

Okay, so the writing wasn't world class, but it was very "Marvel-movie-y" in its atmosphere. It was lighthearted and didn't make any pretentions about being a great, dark, epic character study *cough*. What it did do was weave like five different movies together nicely while always being entertaining, plus Scarlett Johanssen.

Come on man, this movie didn't suck. I've been dragged to a few movies lately that actually had sucked, like - transformers 2 and 3 for example. This was a good movie. It wasn't a great movie but it never tried to be.

You got your antagonist development in the Thor movie.
I meant the whole army Loki summoned. Like.. why the hell did they come to wreak havoc on earth? And Loki's focus on Earth/Humans just seemed a bit... off... given his characterisation in the Thor movie. Also the gap between Thor and Avengers wasn't really made clear either, and while I didn't watch Captain America ( ) I didn't quite understand how Thor came back to Earth.

I don't really understand the question. I've always liked Mark Ruffalo as an actor so his portrayal of The Hulk to me was great.

The Ridley Scott Prometheus trailer hit 115 db. Our sitting a few rows back took car of the bulk of the audio problem I noticed before when watching Dark Shadows at that IMAX. I'm sure the 115 db mark was exceeded by the feature. I just found out that this IMAX just had the audio system overhauled and my feeling is that they messed up in the speech discrimination band. That error to me is glaring (glaring at what?). :p

I noticed a lot of issues with jerky motion. I've seen a few different 3-D movies and this was really the first one that I wished I was watching in 2-D. I mean some of it was cool but it came at a price. However having the illusion of being able to reach out and grab SJ's rear was totally worth it.

Aside from SJ's rear I could have waited for the BR.

Watchmen was a graphic novel known for the story and the characters, not action. So it wasn't being "pretentious", those who knew what it was already knew what to expect. I can see how coming in having never heard of it might feel that way, and to some extent it IS preachy. It was supposed to be dark, darker than TDK. I'll take some character development over mindless (Transformers) action any day.

So was Sin City, yet it didn't come across the same way. I definitely liked that one. Same with V for Vendetta. I guess I just wasn't impressed by the story itself of watchmen. I don't particularily care about action, honestly, but there was nothing about that movie that I can say was "great". I don't think being based on a graphic novel is an excuse for pretentiousness. Watchmen was just fundamentally.. blegh to me. Yes transformers was definitely 100 times worse, but both were pretty bad.

Tell me you guys liked the Hulk character going from zero control one moment to total control the next moment and able to change at will any time he felt like it?

Why did he even ride a motorcycle if he could change easily at will?

Or tried to kill all the good guys at one point?
